This may be the best revolver Smith & Wesson ever made

Post by Scott Tschirhart »

K22 Masterpiece. I bought this one last year. It is very much like the revolvers we used in the Houston Police Academy back in the early 1980s.

The grips are not original but they aren’t bad. It shoots as good as it looks.

I have found that I can usually shoot my old K22 better than I can shoot my various Ruger .22 auto target guns

Looks nice. Probably will last longer than most of us on this site.

The K22 is a great revolver. Don't want to go off the rails here but I'm also very partial to a 4" barreled 15-3 I've been shooting for years

I want one of those! Just looking for the right deal. I like the grips on yours and will duplicate them if I get one.

I was shooting 3 inch plates at 25 yards yesterday (harder than you think) and I think starting a range session with 100 rounds of .22 and shooting relatively less centerfire ammo might be a better way to go.

My uncle's K-22 was the first handgun I shot seriously. The first was my Scoutmaster's break-open Iver Johnson in .38 S&W. One round fired on a troop campout near Mount Rainier.

I agree. dad bought one in 71 or 72, besides the single action 22s I had, I shot his K-22 quite a lot, then he traded or gave it to me when I moved to Az in 81, and I shot it a ton there and some since. I have somewhere between 200-300K rounds through it. 500 rds was normal to shoot each time out, sometimes 1000 rds. I used t for squirrel and jack and bunny hunting for years, and it was wicked on prairie dogs at 75-100 yards. Making running rabbit and squirrel shots, and things thrown in the air were pretty simple with the K-22, or at least it makes it seem that way.

Mine has factory target grips, trigger and hammer. The well shaped factory K frame targets are just abut perfection in a pistol to me. Many are square and blocky, a rasp, file and sandpaper can help rescue them.

Shot this group with some random ammo I had to check zero, was at a GFs place in Sedona and went out Schnebley Hill Rd a bit right before dusk and shot kneeling, 25 long paces. This was the norm whenever I checked zero or groups, and was somewhat of my expectation in getting any new pistols, I sent many down the road if I couldnt get under 3", better was much preferred. Good Smiths and some Rugers would do it. Measured, this is a little under 1 1/4" c to c

Not sure if it's the best revolver S&W ever made, but they are the finest .22 revolver anyone ever made! I have a tough time figuring out which S&W revolver I like best as they made so many great ones back long ago! For a CF I love my .38/44 Heavy Duty in .38 Special made in 1952.

Malamute you just rattled my memory!
While in gunsmith school in Colorado a bunch of us were at the range one night shooting trap.
Walking off the line at the end of a round I stopped at the 27 yard line, my shotgun over my left shoulder I drew my K22 and told the trapper to throw me a target. PULL and the target went- I thumbed back the trigger and the target broke in half. The guys all started - lucky shot, cant do it again. I called for another target and broke it again. That shut them up!! :D
