Not that I'm sympathetic with the 'mostly peaceful protesters' - if I were the mayor or governor in charge, there'd be more than tear gas if they refused to behave.
But the Constitution and other laws are generally ones that should be obeyed, not just used when convenient.
Remember - some day a Democrat president might authorize federal troops to come to 'red' counties and enforce gun control laws. (Of course a Republican, if one had gonads and spine, might as well send federal troops to 'red' counties to PREVENT such enforcement.
