No Drill Sling for Marlin 336
I want to try and get an elk with a 30-30 my friend left me. I posted how I had it reblued and a new stock put on. I don't want to put swivel mounts on it and hiking 4-10 miles a day on the mountains is too much for me to just carry it. I found this no drill sling on Amazon. It's $88. It looks well made and great reviews. Anyone ever use one? Wayne's Dog is the Co.

Certainly looks like it would work well! It is also quite handsome and for 88 bucks it is worth the chance on buying it.
Good luck on your elk hunt, I haven't been able to go to Colorado for the past 8 or 10 years...

If you don't like the loop over the barrel, you can use the Uncle Mike's front sling mount, which clamps on the mag tube as a two-piece.

I've got a few set up that way with a barrel-band on the magazine tube in the front, with a 'regular' stud on the rear, but as I prefer [right] side-mounted buttstock slings (like some folks use on their AR's) instead of bottom-mounted buttstock slings, I've made a couple using thin sheets of metal the same outline as the buttplate, only with a protrusion to fit the sling on the right side; the buttplate is unscrewed, the metal (with holes for the buttplate screws) placed under the buttplate, and the buttplate screwed back in place. The only 'change' is that there is now a 'slot' to the right where the buttplate meets the stock, that a sling can go through. Works better with nylon slings vs leather, but I generally prefer nylon slings anyway.

My wife has one on a Rossi 92. I believe hers was made by a company named Brass Stacker-----they use nice leather and quality parts. Not sure what rifle models they offer the product for.
It's easy to detach if you don't want to use it when you are practicing or on a short hike.

I have a no drill sling I use for all my old guns when hunting with them. It's a simple slip type that goes around the barrel and the buttstock and slide through itself to cinch down at each end. It's thick, but not so thick as to block the front sight when slid over the barrel. I cinch it down in front of the forearm wood, and at the wrist behind the lever in back. Goes off and on in seconds. Muzzleloader guys use this type of sling all the time.

Re: No Drill Sling for Marlin 336
I noticed while walking that the swivel mounts make a lot of noise, more than my footsteps. So I got rid of it and tied loops of thin rope in the holes, then attached the sling to that. A lot quieter.

The term "full battle rattle" came about for a reason.
