Sooty cartridge / pressure

Is there a pressure that needs to be reached to seal the chamber preventing filthy cartridge cases ?
I shoot low to mid level loads in 38 and 44 , and some loads are down right filthy , powder of choice Win clean 244 .
Or maybe a faster powder would work ?

I've had it happen too, it never bothered me much. Usually with bullseye, I just passed it off as dirty Hercules er alliant powder.

Growing up shooting a lot of black powder in .44-40 and .45 Colt dirty cases were normal. Since we are burning nitrocellulose to shove the bullet down the barrel, you are always gonna have something left behind. Some who try a lot of different powders can tell you if one powder is a little less smokey than others. I never thought about it. If I am shooting a lot my case cleaner runs for several days but it cleans them and shines them right up and no problem.

I find that faster powders tend to leave less soot on the outside of the case when you shoot loads that are substantial. I suspect they build up pressure quicker and expand the case faster. But I don’t really know.

But, like Jim, I just clean them after use.

With sooty loads, I usually check the crimp. Too light a crimp is sometimes the only problem...
