32 special reload
so, the wife said i can get some reloading equipment.... i need some help on powder and primers, what do i get?
any tips?
any tips?
Re: 32 special reload
Primer and case: Whatever your reloading manual says (hint).
Powders: Whatever your reloading manual says (hint, again). I prefer the slowest powder possible...a good way to avoid double-charges.

Re: 32 special reload
Winchester brass ,
CCI200 primers
Hornady and Speer 170 grain bullets .
For powders I would suggest IMR3031 and IMR4320 .

Re: 32 special reload
Once you start loading for 32 special , you will probably start loading for other calibers in short order. So I would buy a powder that works well in other calibers you have. H4895 usually is toward the top of performance in most levergun calibers. Ken Waters most accurate load in 32 special is 34 gr of H4895 with a 170 gr bullet. I use CCI or Winchester primers.
Re: 32 special reload
What Bent says. That load works well in my Win 94.
The RCBS FNGC cast at a slightly slower velocity works well, try AA5744 for cast.

Re: 32 special reload
Supplementary question: Which powder will get you closest to 100% load density?
Re: 32 special reload
I have used my .32 spl 94 Win circa 1913 to kill deer and also compete in Cowboy Lever Action silhouette. The load that works best for me is 28.0 grs. of Reloader 7 behind a 170 Hornady with a Fed 210 primer. It clocks on the chronagraph at a little over 2000 fps. Al Foust
Re: 32 special reload
For cast , I've used the RCBS 32-170GC and loaded it with SR4756 and a CCI200 primer !
Used this load in my 1950 vintage Marlin 336SC in 32 Special !
Also used the load in the same gun to shoot turkey silhouettes at 385 meters !
And used that same load in my Marlin Model 1936 in 32 Special to shoot chichken slihouettes at 200 meters !
I also have an older Lyman 321297 mould that I have used some in the 32 Special and it seems to do pretty well also !
Also on a side note , Ranch Dog is in the works with getting a 323-170GC mould for use in the 32 Special and 32-40 WCF .

Re: 32 special reload
A handloaders manual is the first thing. It tells ya everything ya need to know.I use winchester brass and win. primers(large rifle).I've tried
Unique and 2400 for mild cast loads,RL7,3031 and H335 for workin up hunting loads.RCBS 32-170-GCFN is the cast bullet i've used and the hornady 170gr. JFP.

do you believe the Ranch Dog bullet(323-170) will chamber in a winchester chamber or is designed for Marlins only.If it works in my
Winchester i'll be the first one in line.

Re: 32 special reload
I have a Marlin 1893 32 special deluxe Td 26" barrel. The bore is very
good. I use 30 grains of IMR3031 & a 170 grain cast bullet with a
gascheck. This gives me very good accuracy out to 200yds. It is
easily one of the more accurate Marlins in my collection & if I go to
a levershoot this one would be the first one I would take without
any hesitation.

To be honest I have never tried one in a Winchester before !victor wrote:6pt-sika

I can however say bullets sized at .323" will work in my Marlin 1893 , Marlin 1936 , Marlin 336SC . And I also use the same bullet in my Marlin 1893 that is 32-40 caliber !
You may be better off sizing in a .321" die in your Winchester , but I am not sure !
I might not have said it correctly before ! he has the 323-170 on order with Lee right now and then we will test drive it so to speak before he puts it in production ! In the past he has tried some of his others in Winchesters when they were going thru the testing process and they all pretty much worked alright ! It will probably be at least a year before they will become avaiable to the public .

Re: 32 special reload
i ordered some of these
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.e ... mid=815124
figured without all the copper it'd be a little nicer to my barrel
man, after all this .321 talk i hope i didn't screw up... it's in the .32 special section... sure hope this isn't like the shucks website.
http://www.recguns.com/Sources/VIIC12a.html
this said it'd work (gotta trust everything on the internet right?)
ohhh... she's a winchester, family rifle... I'd really hate to have to replace something that shows.
this is going to be the only reloads i do (it's hard to find .32 spec around here), eventually .45 acp, .38 special, .30-06 (when i run out of cheap surplus ammo), and .30 carbine.
