I couldn't resist

Post by Ysabel Kid »

I didn't need another P-35/Hi Power.

But "need" hasn't defined my collecting for a long time.

I had seen several ads for a color case-hardened P-35. I figured the pictures either were touched up, or they picked the best one they could find. But I was out of town earlier in the month, waiting on my wife who was at a bridal shower, and wandered into a Palmetto State Armory. They had one of these in the display case so I asked to see it.

Man, this was great looking. But I wasn't convinced. Then I asked if I could check if it had a magazine disconnect. The counter guy didn't have a clue what I was asking about. So I dropped the magazine - and noticed it was drop free (originals are not). I then racked the slide a few times to ensure he knew it was clear, pointed it at the ground, and pulled the trigger. It fell - no magazine disconnect and the trigger was excellent.

Well, you know what happened next.

The grips are ones I had already (from Exotic Grips by Esmeralda). This is bloodwood, and I think it makes the color case hardening pop.

While the Hi Power isn't my cup of tea (nothing wrong with it, I just found that a 1911 worked better), that right there is one pretty one. I recognized Esmeralda's work. The lady has talent.

Acquiring another HiPower - especially one that hath been breathed upon by someone
who knows what they're about - is never a bad thing! :D

That is darn pretty! Lately I've had a hankering for a Standard Manufacturing color case 1911, but I refuse to try and find oneas my gun find is quite empty at the moment... :(

An iconic Browning design that for some reason I have never owned or shot. It's a striking example! 8)

That is a sweet piece

Tell me does case color have any BETTER Rust Protection than A High Quality Standard Blue????

Or is it mostly eye candy

Either way its sick, congrats!

That is very nice. I'm a 1911 guy, but I like the Hi-Power too. They shoot well for me.
The grips are nice too, buy that pistol just screams STAGS to me. :D

She does. I don't think she offers Browning Hi-Power/P-35 grips any longer (at least I didn't see them on her website). Shame if so; with the introduction of the Springfield P-35 one would think they'd be in more demand again.

IIRC, it was originally used as it produced a harder, more corrosion-resistant finish. I'm not sure that is truly the case. But darn it looks good!

I'm a 1911 guy too, first and foremost (well, for semi-automatics anyway).

Stags would really make it pop!

That is a nice looking pistol. I've been waiting but haven't seen an Inglis turn up around these parts yet. Ivories would be sweet if you could swing it. 8)

I heard those are prone to blowing up, so you should send it to me right away so I can test it out and be sure it's safe.

I'll get it back to you after I've thoroughly safety and function-fired it, I promise... :D

Is that one of the Turkish made High Powers?
I wonder if it's true color casing.
