Anyone w/ experience using Federal 125gr JHP 30-30

Anyone have experience with this round?

Negative and/or positive feedback?
...and I don't think he even knows it...Walks around with a half-assed grin...If he feels fear, he don't show it. Just rides into hell and back again.

I roll my own with the Sierra 125 gr HP and Reloader 7.
Its one of the most accurate loads in my Marlin.
I haven't shot a critter at over 150 yards but the terminal performance
was excellent. BC is pretty poor and they shed velocity very fast but
they are accurate and the Flat Point HP really smacks them down.

Store bought Federal 125s are pricey. If I was going to pay that much for
retail ammo, it would be Hornady LE with a much better BC and down range
energy.

If you want a plethora of information on this - check the AK47 boards - this is equivalent to soft point 124 grain AK rounds. And yes, people do hunt with them - and a lot of SKS's too - especially on hogs.

Bottom line is they work pretty well if you don't ask them to do more than 150 yards.

I'm w/Bob A, I load the Sierra 125HP in front of RE7, have only used 'em on cooyotes; but it'll turn 'em inside out! IIRC JimT has said he uses the 130FP by Speer with good results on deer.

I have used the 125 sierra flat hollow pt on a mess of deer. Shots to the neck drops em like 150-170's but with very mild recoil. They have never failed either on heart shots, and will break bones and come out the other side on a 150lb animal. I have always wondered why more folks don't use em. I only have a few of these shells left that my old Dad loaded years ago, and use rem.150 core lokt now.

I loaded several hundred for a friend, this was about 1981-82. He and his boys used them up and then decided they liked the load good enough they loaded themselves several hundred more. Used them on crows, groundhogs, deer, cats, dogs and whatever "invaded" the farm. The bullet is fine at the velocity Federal loads them.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I tested them against most of the standard stuff. There are reports in several places in this article... http://www.leverguns.com/articles/taylo ... 4_3030.htm
