Trigger pull is heavy but that will be taken care of. Hits quite low. I had a spotter about 8" above the point of impact. That's a good thing. Got plenty of sight to deal with. Feeds SWC's as smoothly and easily as round nose. I didn't try to adjust the sights today. Limited time. Just wanted to get some trigger time in.

Looks like you guys hit the lottery with those Shootist's carbines.
Were those guns given any special treatments? Lapped bores, smoothed up, or any other work before you received them? Your comments about the bores makes me wonder if they were.
They sure look like a perfect Jeep/UTV/ horse gun!
I am not aware of anything done to them other than what was specified when the order was placed. (caliber ... barrel length ... serial numbers .. special markings ... sights ... forend ...etc.) I was not part of that process so I cannot say for sure if anything special was ordered or not.
I don’t think there’s anything special but the bore is awfully shiny for lack of a better term. I’ve run a variety of different bullets and lubes and it seems to always be shiny afterwards.
I have not and likely will never shoot this rifle from a bench rest. The groups I have fired thus far were standing with a field rest over the bed of my pickup. This is not an unusual position for me and I will likely shoot it offhand more than anything.
I fired most of what I shot standing up, offhand. I shot from the bench to see where it was hitting for sure, and will do so to sight it in. But I like to shoot leaning against a tree (not possible on the range) or like you, in some "field" position because that's what it will be used in when hunting or carrying for things that go BUMP in the night.
This one is OK but I am doing the same thing. Running it dry. By the end of 500 rounds or more it will be slicked up where it should be and what I want to do to it will be evident.
Remington factory 250 gr ave.1004 fps (extreme spread on this load was only 4 fps).
255 gr Hornady Cowboy under 7.1 gr 231 ave. 964 fps
270 Rimrock under 9.5 gr Longshot Ave. 1211 fps.
Federal factory 225 gr JSP Ave. 1167
I think I need to go up a bit on the 231 load to try and match the Remington (perhaps 8 grains 231). 250 grains of soft lead at a thousand get per second is a pretty useful load.
