Something Cool - A Prototype Marlin

Post by ikocher »

This video came up on my feed today about a rifle the gentleman says is a Marlin rifle with an interesting magazine system. I figured someone here might find it as interesting as I did.

Very interesting. Thanks for the link.

I wonder if there are any markings on the barrel, or anywhere that would add provenance to this gun to confirm the Marlin connection?

A former member here had a prototype 336. It had no loading gate and loaded like a tube feed .22 or current Henry. It was chambered in .35Rem. The sight dovetails were not cut. It was obviously a proof of concept or tool room prototype. Pretty neat.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

That is fascinating. Wonder if it had a cartridge stop to keep the cartridges from backing out when the forearm/magazine tube was dropped down.

I always wondered why no one ever made a bottom loading levergun, ala shotguns.

I would love to up-grade my Marlins with Henry magazine tubes. Henry is missing an opportunity.

Oh that is nifty!

For a simple loading improvement I have long wondered why no levergun maker uses the little "step" like is found on the loading gate of Remington m14 pumps. Those gotta' be long out of patent.
