Shooters world powder

Post by GunnyMack »

Does anyone use any of the Shooters World powders? I keep seeing ad's for them so I wandered around their website, I found it kind of lacking on information.
I didn't really see any of their powders good for small cases, 218 bee or 22 hornet, 25-20. I sent them an email asking about suitable powders. The reply was ' what are you using now?' I get the feeling they don't have anyone on staff that plays with the good ol stuff. Only if it has creedmore,ARC or NATO in the cartridge nomenclature.

If you have used any of their stuff how was it?

I have used Shooters World Precision, which I really like, and Shooters World Match with good results. Wish I had bought more when the prices were lower than other powders
I have some AR plus for when I need a H335 clone

You should be able to work up from Accurate data for the equivalent Shooter's World powder. For example, Match Rifle is equivalent to AA2520. AR Plus is equivalent to AA2230. Buffalo Rifle is equivalent to AA5744. Accurate used to source most of their stuff from Lovex (which currently makes the Shooter's World line) before they were acquired by Hodgdon and the production moved.

Good info but still doesn't really answer the question I asked SW, do they have a powder for the small cases.

That's good to know McNutjob!
However that still doesn't answer my question to them, do they have a powder suitable for the Bee,Hornet,25-20.

As SW asked, what are you using now.? SW has powders close to unique and 2400, looking at their burn rate chart.

However that still doesn't answer my question to them, do they have a powder suitable for the Bee,Hornet,25-20.
For lighter bullets in the Hornet (say 35gr Vmax) SW Heavy Pistol (AA No.9) should do well. SW Blackout (AA1680 equivalent) would be good in the Hornet or in the Bee I think with the standard weight 40 JSP/45 JFP. Probably good for the 25-20 as well. W680/AA1680 seems to live in that small capacity cartridge realm.

There was a writeup of SW Blackout in the April 2024 edition of Handloader magazine. One Hornet load listed. The testing for the article showed a 2% velocity difference for equivalent weight loads between Blackout and AA1680 with the ES win going to Blackout.

I haven't looked for any of their (SW) tested data. I only have their Buffalo Rifle powder on hand and only because a) it's basically 5744 and b) it was $25/lb. I think they are like a 3 man shop plus a few heads to bottle it up. So I would assume they are going to be light on data. Maybe count on borrowing from Accurate data to get by.

It seems like the days of inexpensive Shooter's World powders are mostly over. Their extruded offerings are now as expensive as anyone else's.

I agree though ... they should have been able to give you the right answer over the phone.

Thanks Ray, I did not see any data listed when I looked at their site.
No excuse but my phone screen and being pressed for time I'm sure I over looked it.

I did look at their burn rate chart which didn't make sense. That is why I emailed them.

1680, 4227, Lil gun, CFE Black I have on hand but as all of us these days it's nice to know other brands could feed our habits.

The buffalo rifle is really good to know being more or less 5744- thanks Mc
Nutjob !

I have never seen these powders on the shelves, only in magazines.

And that very well may be due to a lack of published data. When I find it, it's usually just a couple of cans of one or two flavors. People like the price but might not be willing to take the leap given the dearth of tested data. I think whatever Shooter's World has ... they probably pulled from Lovex tested data. While the europeans do shoot the Hornet (I forget what the metric designation is) they probably haven't considered the 218 Bee or 25-20.

So they sent me their version of a burn rate chart. Closest thing they offer is Blackout.
But no data for what I asked about.
It answered my curiosity about another powder supplier. However I have 1680, 4227, lilgun and cfeblack so I can keep my bee, hornet and 25-20 fed for quite some time!

It would be handy if you already have some but not if you don't . Not currently making powder to sell to the public with no plans to in the foreseeable future.

I've read is a couple places that Buffalo Rifle is discontinued, but I don't know for sure. Haven't seen it advertised for quite some time. Shame, I really like it, use it alot.
