Got my 1894 Classic from Ruger finished sighted in today with my 267gr WFNGC cast bullets, only shooting at 25 yards but they were cutting one ragged hole. Down side is that when I decided to burn up the rest of the 240gr MagTech ammo I had, 5 whole rounds, I noticed the forend was loose after the 1st shot, looked down and noticed the screw that passes through the barrel band (threaded pin is more appropriate) had sheared. This was an issue I had when I had first purchased the rifle last year, it has gone back twice, last time they replaced the barrel, magazine tube, forend, and the band. I have put maybe 200 or so rounds through this since then. I am disappointed to say the least, I get the classic lines, but I've never had this issue with the Marlin setup of a forend cap with 2 tenon screws.

Ugh is right! By now it's obvious it's a design flaw, to you and Ruger.
How much you want to bet this is the result of the penny pinching accountants, if 2 screws cost X we can save Y by using one even though the X design worked so well for so long!
If it were me I'd find a machine shop and convert to the old 2 screw system. Come up with a simple swap, market it.
Very doubtful Ruger will admit other rifles are doing the same thing but if your has done it 3 times...

Bill Ruger would be sad that the model for his company has become short-term profit at any acceptable cost — including tossing QC under the bus. Frankly I don’t care about customer service. I want it right the first time and won’t buy the argument that that is too much to ask.

Amen Bill! I think reverting to the old style would require a dovetail in the bottom of the barrel for the tenon, need to pull apart one of my other ones.

I agree fix it right, that setup sucks. Shouldn't be on you to reengineering it tho. Sometimes were stuck doing so. Its proven flawed by now.

A shame, they went with a cheap failing "new way" to do things. Industries are gone to greed.

I get disappointed as well, when you drop the coin on a new firearm, just to get a surprise something ain't right.

What is really painful is just how accurate this rifle has been in my hands.

Honestly, I don't like the OLD way of attaching levergun forends much either, on the 'band' or 'cap' versions, and no matter the make or model.

It always seemed to me they are difficult to get back on with good alignment. It would be easy to make them 'snap' on like the Ruger No1 or other guns do, which would alleviate the stripped screw problems, the alignment problems, and perhaps improve accuracy. It would also help those of us who get our leverguns all wet and grimy with hard-use, so we can open and clean/dry the area under the forend after an outing, rather than find out after a couple years that there is a very rusty magazine tube and underside of the barrel.

I like a forend cap myself.
Never had one fail.

And I have held guns w loose wood in band style attachments....not so w a cap.

Doc, coat that invisible metal in vaseline and no rust will happen.
