USA Made Skinning Knives NEED A GOOD SOURCE

Post by 348win »

Looking to buy some USA Made Skinning Knives, particularly for coyote pelts.
Was hoping Made in Maine, but did not see what I'm looking for.

Was looking for fixed blade, 3"-4" type, where the blade hangs down past your fingers by a good amount. And no drop point.

Similar to Buck 103 but a tad shorter.

Safer to get the kid into it.

The RANDALL ALASKAN SKINNER is sweet but pricey.

Well, you already know my suggestion. But Randall's are worth every penny.

Not sure if Texas Knife Makers is still around but look for knife making supply places, see if you can find blades you like( most blades are ready to use). Then you and your kids can finish them together. More bonding time that your kids will always remember each time they skin a critter.
I did 6 knives for my 5 buddies and I. Each personalized with different woods. One I engraved Darth Vader on the bolster, his nickname is Vader , due to his sleep apnea mask. Another I engraved F-ng Doug ! as that was the rest of our responses when not 30minutes into his first deer hunt he shot a buck!!

These folk are local to me.....

https://bearandsoncutlery.com/about-us/

and claim "made in usa" but the only ones I own (bear) I ordered from smokey mountain knife works and are clearly marked "china". The theory is that the ones I ordered were old stock from a previous iteration of that company. Anyways, a click on "fixed blades & bowies" shows several options.

Seems that some are for the most part U.S.A. made and others are 100% imports.....

the Buck 119 has nearly the same edge shape as the 103, up to the tip. What about the 110 folder? If it has the same steel and heat treatment it could work out for your needs. They are quality. But'Cept I don't care for the slick grip on the non-folders.

hope you will post pictures of what you get, i'd be interested in something along those lines

Probably not what you're looking for but Cold Steel makes a Click n Cut knife with 5 disposable/interchangeable blades like the Havalon knife. I use the Outdoor Edge version but this one looks better. They are extremely/scary sharp. I can usually gut and skin an elk with one blade. I didn't like having to stop and sharpen my regular hunting knife when time was of the essence getting an elk done midday.

They used to be flimsy but new ones are much sturdier. Cold Steel is made in several countries including United States.

Gunnymack had a good idea,
.
https://texasknife.com/product/Pecos-Bu ... 22C-BL422C
.
the specs on the blade sound good and it's a shorter blade than the OP had

I might buy one so i can use some desert ironwood that's sitting around . . .

You could take a look at Buck Knives #113 Ranger Skinner. It has been an excellent skinning knife and is USA made.
