Happy 250th Anniversary...

Post by Ysabel Kid »

Of Paul Revere's ride, the battles of Lexington and Concord, and the "shot heard 'round the world".

Happy Patriot's Day!

Image

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world.

The foe long since in silence slept;
Alike the conqueror silent sleeps;
And Time the ruined bridge has swept
Down the dark stream which seaward creeps.

On this green bank, by this soft stream,
We set to-day a votive stone;
That memory may their deed redeem,
When, like our sires, our sons are gone.

Spirit, that made those heroes dare
To die, and leave their children free,
Bid Time and Nature gently spare
The shaft we raise to them and thee.

Got my Charleville to go off, but it needs tweaking. Still, fun to discharge the flintlock musket at a representation of the king on this hallowed day.😎

back in 1970 I was stationed on a USCG cutter in Boston , Ma, and toured all those places, I was young and walked all the way from Boston to Lexington and back. Couse was with a cute young lady and did not mind the walk. Not only was that was before cell phones, but was before the internet.
