Remembering Old Friends

Post by JimT »

Over this last year or so I have had a lot of old friends go across the Great Divide between this life and the next. It has caused me to put down some memories of them so that my family and other friends can enjoy the memories.

One of the friends who passed not too long ago is Jerry Danuser. He owned and operated Danuser in Fulton, MO and anyone who has been farming usually knows of them and the equipment they make. Jerry was also one of the Founding Members of The Shootists and was a great proponent of handgun hunting.

Another good friend was Tedd Adamovich of Blu Magnum Grips. Tedd was taught grip making by Deacon Deason of Bear Hug Grips. When Deacon passed, Tedd carried on with the Bear Hug designs as well as others. If you ordered grips from Tedd he always asked for a tracing of your shooting hand so he could make the grips to fit your hand exactly.

Jerry Danuser asked Tedd to make him a set for one of his S&W sixguns. Tedd asked him for a tracing of his shooting hand and Jerry sent him a tracing of his hand ... but it was giving Tedd the one-finger salute.

Some time later Jerry received a set of beautiful grips for his S&W that had one finger groove.

Jerry proudly showed those to a lot of us over the years and we always got a good laugh from it.

That's Bill Bagwell in that bottom picture. I drove about an hour over to his house one time, and we spent the day shooting Sharps rifles. I never had the money to get one of his Bowies, but he found me an Onterio Hells Belle. He was one of a kind!

Bill and I reenacted a knife fight in front of the Alamo. Then we walked over to the Menger and had a drink in the same bar where Teddy Roosevelt recruited cowboys to serve in the Rough Riders.

I miss my old friend. We had some interesting adventures for many years.

There's quite a few of our old friends in this photo that are not with us any more. This was 2006 CSA.

You guys are blessed to have such memories. When Bill Bagwell had anything to say about Sharps rifles on the Shiloh and other BPCR forums, I sure listened.

I have a couple of pictures of Bill that someone gave me that were taken in the early 80's or late 70's when he was doing the mountain man stuff and shooting Muzzleloaders. I need to scan them and post them.
