My carbine stinks!!!!

Post by Scott Tschirhart »

I was having difficulties with a Ruger .44 carbine that was having trouble feeding White Box Winchester 240 gr JSP ammo.

So, I traded it (with full disclosure) on a Marlin Cowboy Limited with the JM mark.

It definitely once belonged to a shooter as the action was slick and the safety had been replaced. The trigger is the way I wis EVERY Marlin trigger was.

It feeds my .45-270-SAA handloads better than the shorter factory length shells. Shoots great out to 100 yards.

I cleaned it after my shooting session today and wiped it down with Bslistol. This released the strong smell of tobacco. Not cigarettes but perhaps a pipe. Not sure how the Balistol figures into this because I noticed no such smell prior to the application of Ballistol.

It’s not unpleasant to me, but this was a new experience.

Congratulations on finding a shooter.

Never heard of that before. Ballistol will likely clean it all off if you give her a few solid wipedowns.

And... if it doesn't, the stench of Ballistol will just overwhelm it!

Sounds like a very wise trade, Scott. I am one who finds the scent of Ballistol pleasant, but then I have been a black licorice hound all my life.

I love the scent of Hoppe’s No. 9.

Balistol just doesn’t bring back the same memories but I use it liberally!
