Re: Short video of my old friend John shooting
John was one of a kind! I first met him by phone when he called me one day back in the early 1980's. I had been experimenting with 300 gr. cast bullets in the .45 Colt Ruger Blackhawk after communicating with Elmer Keith about his experiments with that bullet in the old Colts. John Taffin and I were trying things out and comparing notes. Taffin and Linebaugh had gotten together and Taffin had told him about my experiments so he called me. That was the beginning of a great friendship.

He sure looks comfortable with that recoil.
Re: Short video of my old friend John shooting
Johns standard pistol target if someone wanted to shoot one of his guns was a 15" truck rim on the hillside at 300 yards.
The first time I shot one of his 500s, he said i was one of the few people with a big smile after shooting it.
One handed shooting was a popular thing in the neighborhood, I ended up doing the majority of my practice shooting one handed over the past 25 or so years.

I never met John although I spoke with him on the phone several times. In addition to his gun building wizardry and his eagerness to help other shooters, he seemed like a genuinely good guy.
