The last time I slept under canvas I had a D/B 16g by my side and that was in a safe rural part of England, no Bears or Mountain Lions just occasional nutters.

I recall when I was just 16 and got my license. I wanted to take a solo camping trip. Dad was all for it, mam was a bit skeptical. The plan was simple enough. Toss my stuff in dad's pickup and head out to a spot we had camped quite often. As I was leaving dad handed me a S&W model 10 and said to remember, if I could get there so could someone else. This was in the 60's and things were truly much safer then.

Oh, the trip went okay, and I learned I really like going alone. I had some of my best conversations on those solo trips.
