Nice rifle, but I prefer a pistol grip stock and some chechering.

That's the same 2001 Davidson's I have - though mine is a Take Down.

I like the matte.

I prefer the pistol grip and checkering also. I have the high grade version and absolutely LOVE IT :D

A matte finish on a gun, except a military weapon, is simply an excuse by the manufacturer to cut costs by the elimination of the polishing step before bluing. I don't think there are many of us who would take a matte finish over an old Winchester finish if we had a same price choice.
I bought a Remington 1100 Youth 20 gauge for my wife a while back. She's height challanged, you know, short. Anyway it has a finish that looks like a fine sand impregnated powder coat. I'm sure it's durable, but it's ugly as sin.

Maybe so... but then I also like bead blasted stainless guns.

Polishing flash-rust out of high-shine blue is not my idea of a good time.
