Early Birthday Present

Post by COSteve »

A friend stopped by yesterday evening and gave me 2K of 200 grn plated .45 bullets he found in his dad's house while they were cleaning it out after his passing. He gave them to me as my birthday is in a about 3½ weeks and he knows I handload. His dad must have forgotten he had these as the box said he bought them for $47.99 per K and they were pretty tarnished.

So, I decided to tumble them in my walnut to see how they would come out. After an hour this morning the first batch of 100 looks like new again so I'm going to up the batch size to 150 and start tumbling the whole 2K. It's funny as I just finished 5k of .45 acp brass I started over a week ago that were looking dingy and now I'm doing bullets to match.

I use a dab of Turtle Wax in walnut in my tumblers as it works well with my brass and keeps them from tarnishing so I'll use that recipe with the bullets too. I've already got a few K of 230 grn .45 bullets for my 1911 and Glock so I'll use these 200 grn bullets in my .45 Colt leverguns as I've found they work very well in both my 1866 clone carbine and 1873 clone rifle. It's a great slightly early birthday present.
