A trim carpenter doing framing....the FENCING version...

Post by AJMD429 »

.
This guy is redoing his backyard wooden fence, but with WAY more attention to detail than I ever have...(and I though I had 'OCD'... )

https://youtu.be/1Ynr8Xb8dy8

One end of his yard is 1-9/16" higher so he had to be sure to correct for that...

I was watching this because I realized that some of our 30 year old structures are having post-rot despite treated wood and setting the posts the way was recommended back then (on top of a foot of baseball-sized stone for drainage then with a concrete collar extending above-grade and the posts tarred where exposed).

Having to re-do some pole-building foundations now, without tearing down the buildings in the process - a goat barn, a wood-shed, a gazebo-type shooting bench area, and a pergola/future deck. Gonna be some interesting engineering to replace posts while not disturbing structures... :? :? :?

Each video I watch gives a few 'tips' and yet of course they all think THEIR method works and contradicts other methods and 'experts'. This guy's level of OCD was kind of painful to watch, though. He even used masking-tape on his fenceposts to be sure the border of the tarred portion was perfectly straight and crisp...!

However, I'll have to post photos of my Chicken Coop - it was over-built with a similar level of OCD, but instead of wood posts, I used concrete-filled PVC - supposed to last a hundred years. So I guess I do have OCD too... :D

We are going to do a head scratcher repair this winter, a huge walnut tree fell on an 1800s barn. Broke the center bent of the post and beam framing. We are scratching our heads on how to build the bent, stand it up without taking the rest of the barn down.
