Went to the Range Early to Beat the Heat
Had a nice couple hours with a refreshing light breeze. Sure made it nice. It hit 102 here yesterday and supposed to go higher today so I wanted to get my practice in early.
Shooting my old 1911 .45 ACP ... ran quite a few rounds through it without a bobble.
My first shot went almost center. The rest started clustering together nicely. At the last shot I said to myself, "This will be easy." and it was! Eased right on down to the left. -sigh- I have a habit of doing stuff like that.
But it was a good morning at the Range.

Nice shooting Jim. I have some powder-coated flatnose handloads to try in my 1911 after I make your suggested modification to eliminate hammer bite.

There is nothing wrong with that Jim, last one or first one would still make a bad guy think twice !
Was a crisp 53° this morning! Blowing at least 15mph.
I should have gone shooting after we finished building forms for the mason. Instead I went to see my tire guy who doesn't answer the phone or texts and find out he isn't in the shop!

Yeah, 109 here in Sweetwater. Looking for 111 tomorrow and Thursday. It’s getting old.

You seem to favor cooler conditions Jim.
I was up in the NE on business this week. Upper 50's for the morning lows, and low 70's for the highs, sunny, and NO HUMIDITY. It was beautiful.
Then you remember their guns laws!

Re: Went to the Range Early to Beat the Heat
When I was younger I shot in rain, snow, heat, cold, wind ... I hunted in it all ... but as I got older I became more and more of a fair weather shooter. Back in the 80's in Arizona we would shoot until the guns got so hot we had to wear gloves to keep from burning our hands. Temperatures in the 100 to 110 range and hot loaded 454 Casull's light things up. John Linebaugh said he used a welder's glove at times.
But I ain't that young guy anymore.
However I am happy that I can go shoot when I want to.

Jay, I could certainly be a happy gun owner in New Hampshire or Maine.
Jim I, too, have grown more conservative, er, wiser,
about shooting in the heat.
As to needing a welding glove to hold my sixgun, well, let's say that's a level of dedication I do not possess!

Good shootin', Jim. I was gonna head out today, but it looks like rain this morning so I'll have to hold off.
"When the shooting stops, and the dead are buried, and the politicians take over; it all adds up to one thing: a lost cause."
Re: Went to the Range Early to Beat the Heat
What was the old motto for the Postal Service? Neither rain, nor snow, nor hail...something like that. I never shot in hail or sleet but have shot in falling snow (which is interesting both for the muffled report and the "tube" of clear air the passing bullet makes) and taken brand new guns out in the rain. I've morphed into a fair(er) weather shooter myself, matter of fact I've noticed my range of acceptable temperature for most outdoor activities is getting narrower.
I'd go out today but it's supposed to rain, along with humidity that has been steadily above our norm for the last couple days, 70-80%. The coils on the AC unit froze up yesterday, first time I recall that ever happening.

I went to the club this morning, didn't pull a trigger but I warmed up a paint brush! Was able to get 2 coats of paint on the frame of my shooting bench, 3 coated on the top and seat!

I was the same way. Would shoot in any weather. And hot-rodded my handloads. The more recoil the better. Fast forward 30 or 40 years, and I'm largely a fair-weather shooter (except for my annual qualification shoot, which is always over the summer - in SCJimT wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 8:32 pm When I was younger I shot in rain, snow, heat, cold, wind ... Now, Y2K is me 35 years ago. The bigger, louder, and more recoil - the better! He likes to scare the villagers when he shoots.
