Got a ticket going through Dallas the other day.

Post by JimT »

Speed limit is 65 and I was doing 87.
The ticket was for going too slow and holding up traffic.

Going through Utah on I-15 up the Wasatch Front is that way, about 125 miles of high speed urban freeway . Local drivers in that area are all convinced they are going to Heaven, they drive with no fear of death.

I avoid Dallas like I would the plague!! I have a brother and sister in law in Oklahoma City, and I go 55 to Memphis, and 40 to Oklahoma City, and 35 to Wichita Kansas, have family there too. Oh and come back the same way,

Out shooting pasture poodles one day, realized the time and rush to get back to school before the cafeteria closed for supper. Doing 95 on I25, 65mph, when a CO state trooper going north bound to my south flips on his lights and crosses over. I just dumped the clutch and went for the shoulder. He came up to the window asked what was the rush. Told him I was late for supper at the college.
Wrote me a ticket for 93 in a 65... I deserved it.
Monday morning get to class and I hear the instructor holler my last name- uh oh what did I do? In his office he says ' I hear ya got a speeding ticket?' Yup how did you know? Trooper is a friend of mine. At lunchtime go over and see the DA, he's a friend of mine too. Yes sir I will do that.
Lunchtime and I go to the courthouse, knock on the door and a booming voice tells me to come in.
So son what's your rush?
I explained I was out shooting prarie dogs and was late for supper trying to get back before the cafeteria closed.
Well since you pulled over, was polite to the trooper we are going to plea this down to 89 in a 65, no points but a fine.
Sounds good to me, who do I write the check out to?
Even if the points were given I was on an out of state license so it wouldn't have mattered.

Think I learned from that? I did a Trinidad to Colorado Springs (122 miles) in just over an hour once! Would have locked me up for that!!

My kids live on Fort Worths border, have to drive to Dallas to get back and forth to the airport, Traffic and road construction is insane, I especially like the stacked highways, looks like a roller coaster track.
But don't single out Dallas, Fort Worth is no picnic either

I went around it all. I took 380 west and bypassed Denton, hit 281 and took that South to Burnet and followed 29 to Georgetown. It was "out of the way" of running I35 but I missed all the crazies.

When I was at Eglin AFB one of my guys was being discharged. Now we worked 24 hour shifts every other day like a lot of firemen did. The guy being discharged and two other airmen decided they would drive from the base to March AFB. At March they had arranged for a hop back to Eglin. The kicker was they had to do it in 24 hours. Now technically it was against regs to go that far from the base for just a day, but what the heck. I did warn them that if they weren't back they'd be reported AWOL (I really wouldn't, but a little incentive is never a bad thing).

So, I kicked them loose an hour early and they took off. Next morning the two guys were back in time for shift change. They weren't worth a darned that day, but hey, all firemen do is sit around all day and sleep all night, right? I don't even want to think about how fast they were driving.

They did get stopped once in Texas but apparently when the trooper heard what they were doing he just let them go. Turns out he had been a GI not that long before.

I never liked driving in the metroplex and 281 was my favored route south.

And the two best things about 281 were the Koffee Kup in Hico and Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls!

Jim,
Next time you get pulled over, tell them your name is Frida Goman. The cop will be astonished at a man being named Frida and then will say, “your name is Frida Goman?” and you say, “thank you officer” and then take off.—-006

I'm OK I don't have anything that will hold together over 85, no need for me to see any of that part of the country.I avoid places like that like the plague. live in the mountains, hallelujah!!

I 35 into Austin is worse than both of those. I drive DFW all the time, and if you stay out of rush hour, it's not all that bad.

Austin is just crazy stupid.

I try to keep my appointments in Dallas around 9:45 or later. Traffic has cleared out by then.

It's been a couple of years, but the last time I flew into DFW it was a breeze. After deplaning I grabbed a shuttle to the car rental area, picked up my keys and drove out of the airport. I think I was technically staying in Irving, part of the DFW metro area. Traffic was very light and things went smoothly except for the rain.

Oh, the rain was from thunderstorms that were delaying a lot of arrivals and most departures. The traffic was light because there was a prediction of possible tornadoes, seemed most folks chose to remain indoors. It was also about 8 PM.

But don't get me started on what it was like when I left five days later.

I kind of like Texas. They accepted my California CCW, and I had no problems at the airport when I left with regards to having a firearm. Oh, and I had some of the best BBQ of my life there.

You guys are so bad... having driven thru EVERY metropolitan area in the Nation... (and even some "not so metropolitan areas). THEY'RE ALL chock full of stupid, inconsiderate, unconscious idiots! (There, that's the "G"-rated version; for the real version insert the favored Naval expletive before each adjective)! When you add in the fact that, there just isn't enough asphalt for the number of tires on the road in any of them, even averaged over a 24 hour period, let alone during peak periods, it's absolutely understandable they clog up! City, County & State Highway departments are to blame. By the time they recognize there's a problem, make up plans to improve & expand roads, get proposals for their respective political bodies, they're at least 5 years too late... then add another five years for the self-centered, egotistical politicians to approve said plans. Why they call them "Planning Departments" is ludicris, they're barely able to react to yesterday's needs, let along plan for tomorrow's! It's been over 8 years since I last drove thru Los Angeles, and whereas "rush hour" in most metropolitan areas occurs for 2 hours before the traditional work day beginning @ 8am and lasts for an hour & a half after, then begins again around 3pm and lasts until 7:30ish pm, in LA it begins @ 5am and lasts until about 2am then next morning! That's optimistic, as there's always at least two of the aforementioned idiots that have lost the concept of the #1 Law of Physics... (Two solid objects can NOT occupy the same space simultaneously)! Plan accordingly!

I'll have to give it to you people that drive in these crazy places. I have ZERO need for any of it. Worst place I've been was Around Atlanta heading to Fort Benning when my Nephew graduated . 10 lanes of traffic at 5:00 pm barely moving ,sans some person in sports car popping in an out of lanes.

The mountains stop most of that nonsense in my neck of the woods. I'm content with it.

Something to consider. Even in large metropolitan areas there are often small enclaves where the people don’t have to face the insanity.

These areas , like mine, tend to be upscale and set apart by geography.

I avoid Weatherford At All Costs. That alcoholic daughter of Sam Walton is the best driver there, and Arkansas took her license.

I go to UT Southwestern for all of my medical needs. Genetic anomalies are just another day to them. When I had my MASSIVE stroke, I was on their orange floor. I refused aspirin, ant told them that I didn't have a 2c19 or a 3a4 enzyme. The floor Pharmacist on duty read the chart, and came to my room at a dead sprint. Her out of breath panting still got the point across. The books said that she would never see one of us 30 to 40 adults with less than a full 23 chromosomes. She Had to see if i even looked human. When she had caught her breath, she had a million questions.

Theyve got a toll bypass to go around it at 80 or 85 mph that i always took on my way to the hill country -- a few more miles but considerably less aggravating
