EBay has a Lyman 66LA at auction. An older chart, Lyman's "original" version, identifies this as for Marlin 336 receiver. Current 66 sight is listed for Marlin 336 series AND Winchester traditional lever actions.
What changes occurred in 66 sight and/or the two lever action receivers? I don't see where there is a difference between flat-sighed receivers that would cause Lyman to require different sight bases for Marlin and Winchester.

Re: Lyman 66 micrometer receiver sight
The original steel Lyman 66LA is for the Marlin lever guns, 336, 1894, and 1895 models. The Winchester lever models use the 66A. There is a difference in the fit of the base to the receiver, and the 66LA will fit the Winchesters, but it does not sit flush against the upper curve of the receiver. It just doesn't look right, in my opinion. As far as the new Lyman aluminum models are concerned, I have never owned one, and cannot say if they have changed the configuration of the base or not.

Many thanks. You answered thoroughly and clearly. I was unaware of that slight difference between receivers that makes all the difference.65bee wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 12:04 pm The original steel Lyman 66LA is for the Marlin lever guns, 336, 1894, and 1895 models.
