Homesteader Rifle by Henry
I saw a Henry brochure and they have a semi-auto 9mm carbine. I didn't know they made a semi-auto! It looks like it can take Glock mags, Sig mags, etc.

Make it .45 acp and I'll buy one. I have no need of a weak round like the 9mm.

I'll pass, I'd rather use my 30 carbine with Speer 110 jhp!

While 9mm is not ideal, my wife has a CZ Scorpion 16" rifle and using Underwood and Buffalo Bore +P ammo, it really comes alive. It performs as well as a 16" 357 mag levergun as far as penetration and projectile performance. It hardly recoils at all as well. A 147 grain xtp will expand to .70 and penetrate 40 inches of ballistic gel at 100 yards

I have the Ruger version/ PC9 that's quite accurate and like above, with the right ammunition, it's a pretty potent little carbine.
I certainly wouldn't want to be on the other side of it.

While I do not prefer the 9mm the one thing it has going for it is ammo is everywhere. That and the fact that caliber does not matter as much as most people think. What matters is how well a person can function when projectiles are coming back at them.

Re: Homesteader Rifle by Henry
The Homesteader in 40 s&w would be a big improvement.
I have an original Ruger Police Carbine from 1998. It's the 1st one that looks like a 10/22 with a black stock. It's a decent HD weapon because I got it in 40 s&w and my 165 grn handloads produce 1,380 fps and 698 ft/lbs ME using Power Pistol. The only drawback is that it only has 11 rd, 'LEO Only' mags so I've got 11+1.
Rather than the barrel mounted rear sight, it has a peep sight at the back of the receiver so I get both the longer sight radius and the benefit of a DoF bump as I added a small aperture to it. I zeroed it at 100 yds so it's only 2.6" high at 50 yds and does a decent job out to about 125 yds.

Re: Homesteader Rifle by Henry
45 ACP like Marlin camp would have been to my liking.
Re: Homesteader Rifle by Henry
Well, if ya have a Glock, Sig, etc., then you only have to carry one set of mags
and one caliber of ammo.
Sorta the modern equivalent of carrying a SA and Levergun in the same caliber
back in the 19th century.
I'm tempted, though .....
They won't accept HiPower mags though, and I'm not a tactical tupperware kinda
guy, so I don't have any Glock mags. ( I know, I know - Glocks are as reliable as rocks,
tolerably accurate, etc., etc..... I just can't get into plastic guns.)

Re: Homesteader Rifle by Henry
I handled one at my lgs. Seems like a well made little rifle. My favorite semi pcc is the Ruger LC in 45 acp though. If I wanted a 9x19 I’d probably get the Smith that folds on half. If I’m going to shoot short auto cartridges I prefer they load in the grip to reduce receiver length

Re: Homesteader Rifle by Henry
well i like mine a lot. cheaper to shoot than the larger calibers , and deadly accurate. trust me anyone shot with a 9 mm won't be laughing at it.
Re: Homesteader Rifle by Henry
While I'd rather have a 40s&w (which is a semi-auto version of the 38/40 (40/38?)), the 9mm Parabellum has been getting the job done for over a hundred and twenty years!

Give me an Auto-Ordnance 1928 in 45ACP... it ain't the recoil so much as the weight of the bolt slamming back! It ain't light, but looks as menacing as all get-out!

Re: Homesteader Rifle by Henry
Sorry to go completely off track but I doubt anyone has scene this combo . I took a demilled M1 receiver ,shortened it to M14 length and milked it to accept Thompson stick mags.
Made the M14 type barrel from Green Mountain blank .
M14 shorty, 45 ACP ,Thompson mags,Custom made cuts style comp.
Now the M14 gas system will not cycle 45 ACP . I exhausted everything with no luck. I made a blowback bolt but I've not given up on gas yet. Still work in progress.

Re: Homesteader Rifle by Henry
Well that is something! Not enough gas I guess. A guy could go nuts and broke getting that to work.
BROWN LABS MATTER !!
Re: Homesteader Rifle by Henry
Gas port needs to be closer to chamber but will require major change to design . Blowback bolt will work but I have a few ideas .

Re: Homesteader Rifle by Henry
I finally got to handle one of those at a gun shop where our son took me this spring when we were up there for his promotion to Master Sergeant. Just handled it a bit, still not sure what to think about it. It'd be interesting to actually shoot it a bit. Kind of a heavy 22 feeling rifle is what I'd expect it to be.
