.410 light loads?

Post by 1894cfan »

Was just watching a utube video on the 9mm flobert shotgun and thought about downloading my Mossberg .410. Anybody have any recommendations on that? Have some 7 1/2 and 9 birdshot along with bullseye, unique and 2400 powder.

Nath's load will certainly do the job on close range vermin where shot damage is a consideration, I have used 9mm Flobert on and off for that reason for years, I sold my last Flobert as cartridges were expensive and hard to find, now I just use Eley two inch shells with 9 grams of 7 shot but they can punch holes in things that you don't want perforated. The Flobert velocity is about 600 FPS the Eley 2" is about 1200 FPS .

Little 2" shells not to be confused with 2 1/2".

I haven't tried this load so I can not say it's a cat sneeze load.

But those of us that know the 410 will do everything a 12 will do. Excluding those crazy waterfowl loads.
I've got a published load for a 38cal round ball that does darn near 2700 fps from the 410- the few I tried were quite potent, hit a gong chain and it did some significant damage!

Sadly the load shoots quite high from my CZ, need to try some from my Hi Standard pump.
I wouldn't be concerned about trying that load on deer!

Sounds fantastic. Now I'm thinking how much more ammo I could carry if I ditched the 12 and the 20, for the 410 Chain Snapper !
