What a beautiful revolver. Not only does it still look great.....the history on this one is also interesting.

I had an auction on in the background today while working. Was following my dream gun, a Merwin, Hulbert & Co .44-40 with the "skull-crusher" lanyard loop. One came up that was 95% original condition. Looked darn near flawless. Went for $4750. Well above my budget, but some day!

Steve, do you know what it sold for? It is totally beautiful, I can't believe the projected value is that low, considering.

Interesting and intriguing, but OK, I'll say it...

* How do we know he carried it on that fateful day??? :?:

* How solid is the provenance? :!:

One would really never know for sure. There are probably records to show it was issued to him but since some officers carried their own personal weapons like Custer did so no one will be able to say for sure he had that gun with him on that day

Here is the auction listing. The selling price has not been posted on the page yet.

The write up indicates they feel certain it was at the battle in its first phase. It was carried by a guy not in Custer's group (which was wiped out.)

I saw something that indicated his initials are on it, he was also listed as a survivor and he was in another battle with it. I don't remember where I saw this info though...

Price Realized: $168,500

If I could I would shoot it daily . . . . it's just languished too long
