Savage lever in 30/30
Here is a nice 1920 Savage in 30/30 with supposedly only three rounds ever fired in it

Sharp!. That's the configuration I like. Had to pass on a Savage pump action 30-30 last week. It hurt, but I'll get over it.
Re: Savage lever in 30/30
I've always wanted a 99, but you just don't see them around here. Only one I've seen, sure considered buying was in 308, and it was almost mint condition. But I just don't want one in 308. If I ever find the one I want, it'll be identical to that, man that's perfection! In 30-30 or 300 Savage, and I'd like a 303 Savage also! Congrats on that rifle, if you got it!

I've got a 1949 Savage 99 in 300 Savage that's a great shooter. I got it to round out my collection of leverguns and don't shoot it much as I prefer my Winchester 88 in .308 better. But both are fine examples of the state of the art.

With the current renewed interest in lever guns and as nostalgic as this generation seems to be, id love to see that return to production someday. I'd take one in 22, 25 and 303 hey i can dream

Nice one. It looks like it is a 1899 A Short Rifle. It would have 22" barrel (muzzle to rear of front receiver ring), the cocking indicator should be on top tang behind the bolt. There should be a matching serial number stamped on the forearm (must remove to see/find it), on the wood butt and on the back of th4 butt plate.

OldnCrusty: I had a Savage M170 pump in 30-30. Just wasn't impressed with it. From what I have been told, the really rare M170's are those chambered for a .35 Remington.
As for the M99, always wanted one in .300 Savage when a lad. Finally bought a 99C in .308 when I came back from overseas -- price was right! Rile was OK but I thought it was just too light for the calibre. Sold it off to someone who wanted it more than I did.
started on the search for another M99 more than a few years ago. Wanted a .30-30, but found a Savage 99-H in .303 Savage (1936). That calibre, like a .30-30, just is a pleasure to shoot. Calibre is just about extinct.
A few years ago, I let a .358 WInchester Savage 99 get by me. Just not paying attention to what was on the 4sale table. A friend bought it and says it is first year production in that calibre. Still kicking myself not paying attention.

The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

I passed up a 99 in 308. It's in my daughter's safe! Along with her 303 Savage! Still kicking myself. My first deer was taken with Dad's Model 99 in 243, and I've wanted one since then. The 308 will get all the dust off of your riding jacket. But, it's easy enough to load it to 30-30 velocities if that's a concern. They both shoot the same boolits.
