Went to Hunt Camp Yesterday! Saw lots of game

Post by RIHMFIRE »

Well I got up at 5am and got my gear ready to go..
The drive is about 90 minutes or so...
Stopped to have breakfast...love those ma and pa restaurants
Place was loaded with local hunters and fisherman...
After our hearty breakfast... we were back on the road...
First animal we saw was a big black bear, about 300 pounds, on the
shoulder of the road...at 15 yards....luckily we were in the truck!
Finally made it to the hunt club..and out first chore was to put
up a ladder stand for bow hunting...on the edge of a cypress swamp...
There were tons of tracks...too bad... this was not my stand.....
One thing that were driving us crazy were the moquitos...
You have no idea how bad it gets here in florida.....
Next.... we filled up three feeders....and since we have bears, we have
them hanging 10 or 12 feet in the air between the pine trees...
The trees are all scared up from the bears clawing and marking
their territory...I think we may have an argument about this...
I decided to relocate a stand I had in the swamp...to a spot where
I shot a doe last season....an intersection of 4 major trails...
took this pic last year...botton buck. Passed on four or five other bucks
that were too far of to take pics....and I was too busy aiming my rifle

This was taken from a climber...25 feet up...

I figure it would be a lot easier and quiter in a ladder stand...
We did a bunch of scouting also...and we now have wild pigs on our property!
Can you say BBQ... We finally went to our last chore of the day...to
fill a feeder...and check our last stand.....good thing..The rust on the platform
of the stand was so bad....the next guy would have made a quick
trip to the ground...Safety first....On the drive home I bet we saw 30 turkeys.
About 10 of them were gobblers....Saw a bunch of deer and one fawn at ten yards...
Quite a day...Should be a good hunting season ....if we can put up
with the moquitos....Good thing I have a therma cell! Archery season start
Sept. 20th....
