Re: I’m sort of wanting a new toy
I have a 2008 Yamaha TW200 fat tired dual sport I have set up for hunting. These bikes have a huge aftermarket due to them beng made unchanged since 1987.
It works great, and is very versatile, as it's road legal also.
I have a trailer hitch installed, so I can pull a small trailer or a Jet Sled to haul deer or wood. I have Bark Buster handguards, a gun rack, a rear cargo rack, an aftermarket skid plate, a folding shifter, small turn signals, and an aftermarket exhaust that will rake a quiet baffle. It's been a great hunting and trail rig.

Those Yamaha 200s are great little bikes!
I had a Kawasaki KLR650 for years. I sold it, planning an upgrade to a BMW GS1200 but something got in the way and it never happened. I've been thinking about replacing the KLR a lot recently. Might just happen this year.

Agree on that Yamaha 200. Saw a bunch of them being joyfully ridden in eastern Oregon. My stepson and I had a lot of fun with a little Honda Ruckus, but it was lacking in power and traction. I confess I have never gotten over wanting a real mini-bike with lawnmower engine using diagrams from Popular Mechanics back in the 1960s!

Re: I’m sort of wanting a new toy
I have a KL250 for when I can no longer pick up my airheads. I could carry the KL on a bumper hitch on the 4Runner, or tow a horse trailer if I find one I could bunk in. It is light weight and quick enough. I would like to find a dual rear sprocket to tune up both riding zones.

I don’t want an adventure bike, but I need it to be street legal to ride it in Big Bend

That looks like what I’m thinking about. I wonder if I could carry that on a receiver hitch mount on my pickup?OldWin wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 8:50 am I have a 2008 Yamaha TW200 fat tired dual sport I have set up for hunting. Oh yeah, it'll go on a receiver rack no problem. I've seen guys haul them like that. It only weighs about 275 pounds. It has good clearance but a low seat height. It's very easy to ride, and quite maneuverable. I can turn it around in way less space than the 4 wheeler.Scott Tschirhart wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 12:47 pmThat looks like what I’m thinking about. I have been sitting on the fence for 2 years now wanting to get either the an ATV or the TW200 for deer hunting. Part of me keeps saying just get an old pickup truck.

Re: I’m sort of wanting a new toy
The TW200 sure looks like what I was thinking about.
Re: I’m sort of wanting a new toy
I've looked at those, but stumbled into the KL . . . my check list included magneto ignition, air cooled, and carburetor fed fuel. TW200 is the same idea I think but don't know if it has a magneto ignition. I've been stranded by an engine that required a battery to run. My first BMW had a magneto! Then they "modernized" them!!Scott Tschirhart wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 10:42 am The TW200 sure looks like what I was thinking about.
I tried to explain this to a honda dealer once. He loved his battery start, fuel injected, water cooled bike So Much! My view is that it has 3 liabilities before it gets started.
just rambling,

Thank you! It works great. I've heard it is the only motorcycle to go to the north pole or someother.Grizz wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 11:59 amReally good set up on your bike ! ! The TW has a CDI ignition, but there are no other electronics on it. The units can be purchased for cheap.
The only bike I'm aware of set up as you want is the Rokon 2x2, made in NH. It has a Kohler 7hp engine. It's 2 wheel drive and very capable. Downside is they are very expensive, have a 6 month wait, and are very tinker intensive. I looked hard at them, because I liked the simplicity, but couldn't justify the 9k.

Can't wrong with the Toad Wart 200. It has just enough power that you can't get into trouble with. When the kids were little, one would sit in front of me and one behind me when we checked hay.
