I've watched a few videos lately of people exploring caves and old mines with nothing but a flashlight, perhaps they should have seen the cartoon first.....

I had an acquaintance, well into his 70s who accompanied several women of the same general age into a mine shaft. They were well into the mine when they saw a bear sleeping across the ore cart tracks ahead. I won't say how he described their exit but the short version is that they had no idea how they ever moved so fast. Adrenaline will help you out there....

Musta been super-adrenalin because a bear can outrun a quarter horse. Well, Alaskan Brown Bear can, like the one in the cave ^^^

Fortunately, in this case the bear apparently did not wake up despite the sounds of fleeing geriatrics.

Having had lengthy experience with both bears and horses, Elmer Keith opined that, "There's not a horse alive that can outrun a grizzly bear in the first 100 yards". He said that he had observed the pads of bears' feet flung over their backs as they charged.
