So I've read about rim thickness vs weighing 22 ammo for accuracy. Not having a rim thickness gauge ( and not buying one!) I decided to get the scale out.
I took a box of CCI Standard velocity and weighed each and separated by weight to shoot same weights for groups.
I also decided to do a box of Eley standard velocity as well.
Did this experiment produce an AH HA moment? Nope.
If I had more than 4 that weighed the same they were shot for group at 50 yards. Some of the groups were 10 shots.
What I can say is the extreme ends of the weights did shoot differently from the middle weights.
It was HOT with no wind, sun behind me so I could see my bullets through 4x .
The lightest CCI didn't group well as I forgot that I was dialed up for a 100 zero so I had to make adjustments.
As this was just an experiment I wasn't worried about hitting the black dot as much as group size.
Did I mention it was HOT? Hot enough that the Eley lube melted enough that it was difficult to pick up individual rounds!
I did not allow the barrel to cool between groups, all 50 then a break.
Shot from my 77/22 with Shilen match grade barrel.
If nothing else it was a nice way to get some trigger time.
Tried a test today on weighing. 22s

Will, great test idea. I've never used a rim thickness gauge either. The Eleys do seem to want to group in more of a round pattern as opposed to the stringing with some of the CCI.
Oh -- and I hear ya on "hot," although we are only up to an almost chilly 96 today ...

I wish it would SNOW!!!
The first Shilen barrel I put on my 10/22 loved Eley standard velocity and Green Tag.
After years of mediocre accuracy from my 77/22 I finally bit the bullet and got a match grade barrel. I need to do more ammo testing of other brands as well.
I didn't really look at the groups for anything other than dispersion. However it was kind of enlightening.
Just for the heck of it , Amazon has a fairly inexpensive rim thickness gauge I might pick up just for kicks.
