Another Range Report - this time Thumper goes shooting
Got the sharps out today to the range. A bit about the rifle: Its a Shiloh Sharps 1874, double set trigger, 30" heavy full octagon barrel, hartford collar, ladder rear, with a german silver ramp, german silver forearm cap, XXX Fancy Walnut stock, Hard pack rub, Bone CC all in my favorite caliber 45-70. I call it Thumper. Here are some pics:
Started the shooting at 50 yards. Was using 500 grain govt round nose bullets on top of .030 vegetable wad, 70grains of FFg drop tubed into winchester cases. This is a slightly compressed load. about 1300+ fps. I have got to get to the eye doctor I think because I could not get the sight picture right on the rifle without my reading glasses, and they mess up the target image. I futzed with that for a bit, all 10 shots going in about 3 inches and I attributed that to a really fuzzy target. Moved out to 100 yards and shot 3 more before times before calling it quits. I swabbed before the final group and breathed in the breech after every shot. Here were my last three shots:
I think this one is a keeper. I will have this in Texas and hopefully it will make some meat for me.

I had my EMF Sharps out today too, I was ringing a gong at 179 yards with 405gr. Remington loads. I was using the ladder sight with it at the lowest setting, a fine bead, and a 6 o'clock hold. Those ladder sights are pretty accurate.
