1894SS357-LTD

Post by GOOSE »

Hello everyone, I recently found an unusual Marlin at my local Pawn/Gun shop and would like to know when it was manufactured. The serial number is 94S35277 and it is a Stainless Steel .357. The model number is 1894SS357-LTD and has a 16 1/2" bbl. If I can figure how to upload a photo I will, thanks

I'm pretty sure Old Savage is right. What's the price?

The guy wanted 475.00 and I begged him not to sell it to me for 450.00. So he did and I took it to the range and wore my shoulder out having fun. He said it was one of 135 guns that he just bought from a business man who had been transferred to Mexico because of business. No books boxes or other info. thanks for info. Goose

Indeed OS, we do have a winner. I was trying to round up one of those for the wife back when they first announced their production. By the time they finally produced them(8months after the announcement) she'd already got a blue one. You sir, got a good deal on it. You'll have way too much fun with it.

Usually I like blue guns over Stainless myself. This one is so ugly it's cute. I will probably scope it with a Weaver V-3 because my eyes have gone the way of Winchester, that is, not quite out of business but might as well be. Thanks for the support. I felt guilty when I bought it for ohhh maybe three or four minutes. Goose

Actually, that's been a problem with Marlins off and on - sometimes they forget to finish and blue the metal! :o

Tell you what, I have a friend who can 'blue' it for me cheap, so just to show you what a nice guy I can be, I'll give you $100 for the thing, even though it's defective, and un-blued. Sorry about your bad luck, buying a bad gun like that. Real shame.

I might even consider trading you one they remembered to blue before shipping out, for your un-blued one, if you throw in a box of ammo...

Seriously, you got a good deal on what seems like it would be a GREAT gun. I have a stainless 1894 in .44 Mag, and hope someday to stumble across such a find as you did. Post pictures when you can so we can all drool and be jealous.

(If you get a free account at photobucket.com, you can easily copy a photo from your computer to there, and then all you have to do to share it is insert the link in your picture...)

I am the worst gun trader in America. When I'm suppose to be cool when I see something I like, my palms start sweating. Got lucky on this one from the sounds of it. I will load some W-296 behind a 125grn bullet and see what happens. I will go over to Indian Bob's across the mountains and drink a martini and shoot off the porch...that is shoot OFF of the porch. Remember, guns and alcohol don't mix. Goose

Oh yeah, Let me see if this link to the photo works. Thanks

Yep, you did VERY good. Sets of all four (357, 41, 44, 45) sell for 3200, which makes $800 each. I'd love to get a shot at one, just like at least half the guys here. Congratulations!!

You did very well on this rifle. Like rick said they made a set of 4 .357, .41mag, .44mag,.45colt. They made 251 of the .41 and .45 colt and 351 of the .357 and .44mag. I have the set and all serialed #ed the same. Look for the other 3 to your set :) Good luck with it.

Holy Cow!! Now I'm afraid to shoot it. I usually buy guns that are used and a little beat up. Kind of like stray dogs or boats, I like fixin'em up. I'm surprised the guy I bought it from didn't know what it was. Goose
