RCBS 30-180-FN in 300blk

Post by 1894cfan »

Had this mold for years and never really got around to using it in anything. So thought I'd see if I could find a load that would work in the 300 BLK cartridge. Went to the Hodgdon loading site and found a bullet that was closest to the 195gr that I get using Lyman #2 lead. The only load listed for the powder I wanted to use was Win 296 at 10gr. Tried it in one of my ARs chambered for that cartridge, it worked but the primer indicated a lite load. Tried 11gr which flattened the primer out like normal. Haven't tested it for groups yet, but that load will work. Feeds just fine in my ARs, both pistol and carbine length gas.
BTW, been using the RCBS 30-150-FN bullet in the 300 BLK with 16gr H110 for quite some time with no problems at all.

Couple screws for the handguard and a couple screws for the gas block and clean it out. It's not like it's a Mini14 or 30 carbine. Besides, I put it together, I ought to be able to take it apart. 8)

The upper I'm using for lead bullets I've got setup with a LoPro KaliKey, ie. a straight-pull bolt action. It replaces the gas key with a key that diverts the gas out the side, so it's not gas operated. Besides, I've got other uppers if that's a problem. :P

Let's hope and pray that it doesn't come to that in CONUS, these days it just might! :(
