I am back in Texas!

Post by JimT »

Got in from Oklahoma yesterday. Near Pryor, OK gas was in the $4.29 to $4.49 range. At Chouteau, OK the Love's station had gas for $3.99. As we got closer to Texas we began seeing gas for $3.89 ... $3.79 ... below Denton, TX gas was $3.69. Then as we got closer to Dallas the prices started back up in the mid $4 range. In Dallas I saw gas for $4.89. Closer to home it seems to be running in $4.39 to $4.69 range. Weird how it is more than a dollar a gallon different in a few hundred miles.

Checking my security camera I see we had people going by the house.

That's more than we were paying in Mozambique in 2016!
For the US folks, GK is paying a bit more than $8.25 for a U.S. Gallon of gas.

Oops ... just thought. Is the "$2.23" US Dollars or Pounds? I figured the above at US Dollars.

Funny thing, I did the math to convert liters to gallons without even realizing it. My job does everything im milliliters, liters, milligrams and kilograms. Before computer programs to fix it, a lot of pediatricians would tell us the kids weight in pounds and how much medicine to give in milligrams per kilogram. Converting is sort of automatic.

Jim, I topped off yesterday at an Allsup’s in Merkel at $3.71. Wish other prices were coming down.

There's an interesting piece of history near Merkel, Bill. Years ago a guy on an overpass west of Merkel fired into a truck hauling dynamite and blasting caps. The explosion blew out that lane of travel and was felt for a long ways off. If I remember correctly the shooter and the truck driver were the only ones killed, but it damaged building for quite a ways.

Remember the blinking neon sign "Whoa Merkel" ? It's stuck in my mind since childhood.

Here in the big city our gas runs $5.39-$5.79 for cut rate or higher priced. Some are up in the $6.29 or higher range!
But I can drive 8 miles south and buy gas at a Union 76 and get it for $4.59, so there's huge price gouging going on in the larger city.
