Fish for perch or steelies at the dam in Elk Rapids or hunt Kalkaska much?

wcf3030.......

I do most of my Hunting over by West Branch, I own a piece of property over there. And I was not aware of the perch fishing over to Elk Rapids, just a half-hour from where I sit. Just my preference, but i'd take a fat perch over a walleye any day!

Thanks for the welcome.

Early May. Get some wigglers go for a road trip. When the steelhead are in the perch are in.
Your a lot closer then me. But when that place is hot, it is worth the trip, even at $3 a gallon.

My Dad used to take my brother and me out into Saginaw Bay back in the mid 70's to fish Perch, catch 'em 2 at a time on Perch rigs, what great fun.

I may be doing some duck hunting at the bay in a about 2-3weeks.
The nice part about Elk Rapids is that you fish from shore right by the little bay in the boat marina.
Nice little coffee shops and bakeries near buy.

I'm not too familiar with Standish other than it has a prison there, been through it on the way up US23. I used to go smelt dipping years ago south of Standish, but the numbers of smelt have dropped to the point that it's not really worth the effort anymore.

Hi there, Spaceman Spiff!

It's good to have a couple more southern Michiganders on the boards here.

As for good places for baked goods, if ever anybody gets up to L'anse, check out the cinnamon rolls at the Hilltop. Not only are they HUGE, they're goooooooooooooddd!!!

Hi Larry,

Thanks for the welcome. One of my hunting partners graduated from Mich Tech. I heard some stories of the snow there, beats the puny 100 inch average we get here.

Thanks! It's a great bunch of guys here.
I lived in SD as a little boy from 1966-68, also Chula Vista. Was there a few years ago for my brother's Navy retirement. What a great town. I saw a cool old car museum in the French Quarter (is that what it's called?) We had dinner at that place where the wait staff insult you and you get to throw stuff. :D :D
I didn't fail the test, I just found 100 ways to do it wrong.
