Spring storms.
We had a night of spring storms in the Dallas area. In Ennis, where Shilen makes their barrels, a roof was ripped off of a Dairy Queen and a TV/radio weather spotter had his F350 lifted and rolled three times. He was in it.

Here’s a good fast loading website that shows rain and snow and since it's animated you can see movement and estimate how soon till it hits you. Usually there is a little bit more time than you think there will be because it is showing rain that's still up in the air and hasn't hit ground yet.
https://www.wunderground.com/maps/radar/current/spi
This lightning strike site shows 'energy' better and seems to correlate better with bad wind or tornado.
https://www.lightningmaps.org/blitzortu ... .php?lang=
Zoom in to an active area and it's neat to see the high level of detail.
When local lightning happens it isn't more than one second before it shows the location, and the sound cone they project even fairly accurately predicts when you'll hear the thunder. Of course horizontal cloud to cloud lightning is less accurate, but it's just fun to watch, and amazing to think satellite gets data, algorithm analyzes it, it gets located, superimposed on a map, and even a predicted sound cone generated and graphed out then sent to your phone in near-real-time.

Brian, and here I am foolishly considering moving to Abilene from the benign desert of south-central New Mexico.

Amarillo is several hours away. Spring storms can happen almost anywhere. They can cause a lot of trouble.

Three hours or so south of Dallas we had high winds that blew some lawn chairs over.

HDH, we have had a very active week of gypsum storms down this way. Today the wind is finally supposed to lay down. Feel sorry for the tourists who come to see the White Sands when the wind is up.

Bill,
Sure wish we would get some moisture! With this heat, and the fire up in Ruidoso, I won't be surprised if they close the forest.
