Local gas ststions have put a limit on how much fuel you can buy because people were bringing in drums and filling them up. .

Yep. I can't say I blame them. I imagine that we will see a pretty significant jump in the cost of fuel over the next few weeks.

Too late, Diesel's already up over a $1.50/gal in a matter of days, and expected to continue to climb. Which is ok, as I get more per mile the higher climbs, my worry is that whether we'll be able to get it.

Understand, the fuel you are paying high prices for is made from oil that cost the refiner much less than the current price. When the price of oil drops they then keep the pice of fuel high to "cover the cost of higher crude prices". In other words they are over charging on the front end, and the prices never drop as fast for fuel as does crude on the back end. Now you probably think that "Big OIl" is responsible for this.

Well, you are partly right. They do play the game and come out on top every time. But, the rules of the game are set by the federal government. Before they got their hands into the mix prices were lower and more stable. But they decided that they needed to control the oil industry and proceeded to regulate it. That's where things went to hell. I was in the industry when this happened. I watched it happen.

It is so easy to underestimate the free market. There is not a living breathing soul who has ever witnessed pure unadulterated capitalism. I might suggest if someone makes the rules you must play by it would be foolish not to use those rules to your best advantage. Also one must not forget the slush fund called gas tax!
