1967 S&W 10-5

Good evening gentleman,
I stopped by my local gun shop yesterday afternoon in hopes of finding something made of steel and walnut.
The shop had several more S&W revolvers behind the glass!
A few nice Smiths that I took a look at.
A few beaters that I had no interest in.
Then I saw a super nice K frame in the back of the shelf.
A 99% 1966 or 1967 model 10-5. It had the tapered pencil barrel and original Magna's.
Ser.#C9333XX, it was flawless without a mark anywhere!
So, I picked it up for $525.00! I wish it had the box, but I'm not complaining.
I'm thinking about a grip adaptor to fill my hand a little better.
I put 12 rounds of Federal standard 158 gr. 38 spl thru it.
At 15 yard it hit dead center! Sometimes with fixed sights there off a bit.
I'm very happy with this one!

Nice! Much prefer the tapered barrels.

Grandpa used to say " There's always another broad around the corner, finding a pistol that shoots straight is the hard part!".

Those are nice guns.

I have a 10-5 and a 10-6.

Both shoot to point of aim with decent triggers.

My 10-5 is not nearly that nice - somebody DESTROYED the finish with a solvent
or something. But it shoots beautifully!

Everyone needs at least one S&W Model 10 just to remind them what a classic gun feels like and shoots like.

This is a Model 10-7 that I built from parts. I bought the frame without a barrel from J&G Gun Sales in Prescott, AZ. I ordered parts from various places on the internet. Turned out to be a nice accurate sixgun.

The top Model 10 I bought through the Department in 1980 when I was a Correctional Officer. We were issued the Model 10's as our sidearm. The grips on the gun are original Bear Hug by old friend Deacon Deason.

The bottom Model 10 went to my daughter when she moved away from home many years ago. She still carries it.

The Model 10 is probably one of the finest guns S&W ever built. Mine is an early gun, and can't recall if it even has a dash number now? But of all the S&W I own, it's got the nicest SA and DA trigger feel of any of them! I've put thousands of rounds of .38 Special down mine, and would never consider letting it go! My Model 10 and my Model .38/44 HD Target will be passed on to my heirs, and hope they love them as much as I do!

Nice score and at a very reasonable price! I enjoy the .38 loaded with wadcutters -- pleasant and and economical to shoot. Known a few Fellow Shooters who were able to hit anything and at any distance with one. Myself,tried shooting one and I just can't seem to get a consistent sight picture with the M10. Same thing with me trying to shoot a Colt SAA.

Thank you, gentleman! I'm looking forward to many rounds of 38 spl heading down range!
I found a new Bianchi #5 bhl snap holster for it. My local gun shop happened to have one in lefty.
It will work for my model 66-2 also.
Anybody have an opinion on the grip adaptor?
Rather than replacing the original Magna's. I like the grip adaptors in Jims photo!
It seems that there's only one company that still makes them. Tyler co.
I think it would fill my hand a little bit more than just the thin grips.
Not to mention they look old time cool!
Any opinion would be welcomed!

I tried the prophylactic grips and hated them. The Tyler's grip adapter fits my needs perfectly.

My 10-5 is not nearly as nice as yours.

A previous owner tried to reblue it or something, and just destroyed the original finish.

It shoots beautifully to point of aim with 158 gr LSWC, though. And the trigger is really
nice.

It came with some beautiful tulipwood grips that were way too narrow at the rear
and painful to shoot. I put a set of Pachmyrs on. They fit my hand, and are VERY
comfortable.

You've got a nice gun there!

I seem to be acquiring a few Smith &Wesson's revolvers as of lately.
If I had the funds, I could probably buy two vintage Smiths in high condition a week.
Since no pre safety Marlins or pre 64 Winchester have been in stock for quite a while!
Brutal cold headed this way for Saturday!
