My uncle Jim was in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers K.I.A March 1918. RIP.

No known grave, commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial.

My grandfather was English, volunteered for Gallipoli, but he underweight.

He entered in France.

No way it talked about it.

My grandfather was in the American forces in Europe during WWI.

His son (my uncle) returned in WWII, landing in the first wave at Omaha Beach on D-Day.

Both survived their wars. So many of their friends did not.

Great Uncle Earl Traylor died in 1920 in Denver, having never recovered from the injuries to his lungs caused by German gas in The Great War. He was my grandmother's favorite brother.

My grandfather was USA. Served in France and was killed there. Although he didn’t pass until after he arrived back at Ft Leavenworth. Like quite a few he contracted the Spanish flu that they returning soldiers brought home with them.

Grandad never talked about the war, and wouldn't if asked. Dad was in the Army Air Corp in the Pacific, WWII.

In the far distant past, two of my Irish Forefathers fought in the Civil War, on opposite sides! It is rumored that one was Jefferson Davis horse holder. There's little military history after until WW2 when my Father and Uncles on both sides of the family served; Dad was a photographic interpreter in the 42nd Air Recon Squadron, CBI theatre. I kinda followed suite serving in SEA, toi la mot covan, (my keyboard doesn't type Viet!), I was part of a small MACV Advisery Team in the Delta.
