FBI Director Robert Mueller: 'Weapons Harm People'

FBI Director Says 'Weapons Harm People'

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The director of the FBI is not happy with the Supreme Court's recent handgun ruling.

Robert Mueller said he tends to believe that "weapons harm people, and more often than not they harm the people carrying them."

Mueller said the high court's decision, which threw out a handgun ban in Washington, D.C., "does throw a lot of things up in the air."

Last week, the Supreme Court struck down the District of Columbia's 32-year-old ban on handguns by a 5-4 vote. It was the first major pronouncement on gun rights in history.

Mueller said communities now will have to decide their own licensing programs.

Mueller spoke Monday at a convention of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators in Hartford, Conn.

He said with his grandchildren going to college, he hopes "those campuses will be weapons-free."

He said college campuses and small communities could be "potential incubators of terrorism" even while major cities such as New York and Los Angeles remain primary targets for terrorists.

Well his grandchildren could always call grampaw so he can get there with his gun.

This is typical liberal head in the sand mentality.

You will never stop wacko's from going wacko and start killing innocent people. The best you can hope for is there is an armed citizen there at the time with your grandchild that will bring the violence to a swift end before the wacko can get to them. This happens all the time but you never hear about it because the violence doesn't esculate so it never makes the news. One dead wacko is not much news.

This is a long way from the FBI I knew in the 1930s of JEH. Our need for a federal police force is questionable enough but we have way too many more and they've lost their way.

The gun free zone really worked well at Virginia Tech. Worked really good at the two shopping malls where those defenseless patrons were murdered. You would think the FBI director would know that criminals don't obey the law

College campuses could be anti terrorist gun friendly zone! Potential means he has nothing to back it up with.

Another classic example of LEO leadership being political hacks, whereas the "street-level" beat cops (or Feds) usually overwhelmingly support the rights of individual law-abiding citizens.

I'm surprised a person could have achieved the position of FBI Director, and yet be so ignorant of the studies done on the overwhelmingly positive effects of armed citizenry in the USA. In his position, he should be getting his information from reliable sources, studies and investigations ..... not the newspaper. Give the goof his pick slip.

Director Mueller is another social elitist who has landed in a position to make policy decisions which end up harming honest people.

Like the president who appointed him, he doesn't understand that his job is to enforce the law as it is currently written, and not just as he wants it to be.

Where are his statistics to back this up? One of the things that really gets me hackles up is the way the anti-gunners, celebs, popliticos, whatever toss out some unsubstantiated statement and the sheeple jsut eat it up.

If weapons harm the people carrying them why are there any LEO's or military personnel left?

Kirk has it right, how does a person so high up in the government become so ill informed? Just another liberal anti-gunner in my book, and should be terminated right away. Probably makes over 150,000 a year to go around and condemn a ruling like all of us appreciated so much recently.

The old poly sci definition of a state is the entity with a monopoly on violence in a given geographic area. It's the impact on their monopoly position that concerns people like mueller.

I believe Oldmax is referring to Texas Ranger Charlie Miller's line of thought. When asked whether it was dangerous to have 1911 stuck in his waist, he reportedly said something to the effect....

I don't think the FBI director can be fired. He serves a 10 year term that isn't dependent on the President. So that he can't be unduly influenced by the political hack.
