Scope base & rings??

Post by Drawdown »

Men, just seeking a confirmation on what I believe will work?? I've never mounted a scope on a centerfire rifle, plenty of 22's but thats a different ballgame!
I went in a LPShop. And gladly found IMO a jewel! An Ithaca LSA 65 IN 30-06, made in 75, 80-85% condition, its just a Tikka M65.
Been searching already, and scope bases are a little ??, but I'm fairly certain the Weaver #61 2 piece bases will work. I've about settled on the Weaver steel Grand Slam top mount rings.
My question is are these rings compatible with those bases? I've read so much its really confusing if you've got no hands on with any of it!
Or, I'm open to any advise if anyone has it??

Yes, the Weaver pattern is the way rings mate with the bases. It is Weaver's standard and they make different ring styles that mate with Weaver bases with few exceptions like tipoff rail rings (rimfire, air guns etc). Other manufacturers make Weaver pattern mounts too. Also if your rifle has integral dovetails like most Tikka/Sako rifles you can just buy rings to fit them. My Sako has Leupold rings mounted directly to the rifle much like the Ruger styles or rimfire rings

44S, I found info on a site, The Classic Firearm Journal, in the Sako section, with details and pics of the original rings by Tikka then for this rifle. It was before Sako got Tikka, and the dovetails are different? and the rings are no longer available. But on another site it read that the correct Weaver #61 bases will work on it, so im thinking I'll go that route? The rifle is in lay a way, I need to go take another look before I order. Thanks for the confirmation on the rings working, I thought so, but wanted to be sure. I've used only Leopold steel rings on my CZ 22's, and they hold zero for years after a lotta rough use! I still may go witheupold rings?

Yeah if you can't get rings for the rifle or are unsure what will work, a Weaver base that fits will allow a lot of ring options. I used Leupold mounts a lot and like them but Weaver is well proven too. Just make sure your rings are Weaver pattern (the bottom) as there are quite a few different mount setups. You won't go wrong with Weaver, Burris, Leupold or Redfield brands

I'm going with the Leupold rings. Been down road several times with lesser rings on 22 squirrel rifles. In 2008 I put a set of Leopold steel on a CZ 22. I've made maybe 2 clicks of adjustment since, many miles beating on a 4W, canoe camping, falls, etc!
