22 Hornet ?

Post by BlaineCGarverakaTubbyTuba »

Prolly too high a pressure for any kind of lever? How does the Bee, Zipper or 25-20 compare to Hornet numbers?

I just looked at the Hodgdon load data for Hornet, Bee and 25-20.
Top loads for the Hornet are around 42K cup.
Bee and 25-20 both have top loads around 38K cup.
My Lilgun load for the Hornet is 28-30K cup.

I think the biggest issue with the hornet isn't the pressure but all of the factory loadings available with pointed bullets. No one will introduce a levergun with a mag tube for a round that has factory ammo that isn't tube safe. You can handload an unsafe Bee or 25-20 round, but you can't buy one.
As much as I love leverguns, I think my Hornet load of Lilgun and the 40 gr VMax would be hard to give up. Now, if Hornady would make this with the gummy tip, it would be a winner.

It was cartridge dimensions that stopped the Hornet from being chambered in a levergun. Was easier to create the Bee for the 92 than to adapt it to the Hornet.

Speaking of the Bee,

Lots of dings in the wood but maybe they aren't that deep :?:

It's a shame that the Hornet can't be used in a tube mag. I would swop my CZ 527 FS tomorrow for a lever gun. Its a very useful round, especially in more built up areas. Perhaps someone might scale down a Win.95 or Savage 99 but that is just wishful thinking! 8)

Ruger 96?

They already have the mags for the 77/22 hornet, and I think The 44 mag reciver would work.

I have said it before in another thread here ,but a single shot on the order of the Ithaca model 49 would be a neat little gun. I know the 49 is an aluminum alloy but a steel frame should be strong enough .I have heard that the 49 was based on the Martini action .

Better than 22 hornet or 25-20

Post by tabascojerry »

Boys,

All you have to do is grab a Rossi M92 in 347 mag, remove the 357 mag barrel and install a 257 barrel chambered for .256 Win Mag and you is in super business.

Mine is a trapper and I can almost carry it in my pants.

You can also go with a factory made ready to go Handi Rifle.

Bullets for the hornet are not FN. They are loadable in the 218 BEE however.

Folks tell me that they are ok to use because of the low recoil of the Bee and

they have never had any problem with magazine detonation.

I think they should come out with a micro-action 1895....

A nice little 5-6 pound 1895 in 22 hornet sounds wonderful.

Rebel1972, you have described exactly a TC Contender carbine in .22 Hornet, readily available.

Here is my favorite exposed hammer, lever action 22 Hornet. With 3 x 9 Leupold EFR scope it weighs a trim 7.25 lbs.
Browning 1885 Low Wall with octagon barrel.

I also have a Ruger #1 B in Hornet but it’s a bit on the bulky side for a hornet. Great shooter though.....
