45 ACP yard toy

Bear with me please as this is not a lever gun question !

Want to put this out to the wisdom of the pack

Got a 45 ACP yard toy, SBR - suppressed . What load would you use, 180 gr at 1050 fps, 230 gr at about 800 fps or a 250 gr at about 750 fps. Max range is less than 100 yards, trajectory arc is not a concern. Sight it in for 75 yards and let them fly. Intended targets are coyotes and possible a wolf. Not to mention the house cleaning, if need be, of two legged varmints.
If I am hunting< I have other toys to reach out and touch'em. This is for just around the house!

Without PICTURES I cannot answer...

When shooting suppressed firearms I find that being too close to the speed of sound (which can vary quite a bit with humidity, pressure, and temperature), I still get occasional loud rounds.

So I’d probable take one of the slower rounds; whichever proves more accurate or you have more bullets for.

I’d probably use the biggest bullet I could launch to 975 FPS or thereabouts, provided the twist was sufficient to stabilize it.

I got a MechTech ‘upper’ that fits 1911’s and use my double-stack Rock Island frame on it so I can use my 20-round mags. Sadly it isn’t threaded and I don’t have a 45 caliber can either...

230 at 800 should do the trick. This load is considerably under what you could push through a suppressor. But this level of power is sufficient for your stated needs and it is relatively easy to get good results with the suppressor.

Don't forget elevation- higher you go the lower the speed of sound. Wolf country is gotta be higher.
If it was me I'd go 230's around 800-850.

I would lean towards a rnfp, 200ish grains @1000fps. Its what I shoot in my contender carbine in 45 acp

That's what I like too. But, I've never shot 45 suppressed or out of anything but a pistol.

I tend to stick with 230s mainly because they are easy to find and shoot to the sights in my 1911 and my smith 22. The Kimber shoots everything close to the sights the revolver shoots low in porortion to bullet weight. Thought of trying some heavyweights especially in the revolver for a field load

Been shooting 185's out of my Para, 6" barrel ( no suppressor) and love'm. 10" plate at 100 yards hit more often than miss. Going heavier in the SBR to more or less guarantee no sonic crack ! SBR has a 8" barrel! My place borders cattle grounds on north and west and a wolf wanders down now and then. Coyotes more common. Elevation here just outside of Emmett, ID is 2500.

Did not need the need toy but I got it because I can.

What is your rate of twist? This one started out with a cut down Rossi 45 LC barrel which comes 1 in 30". he is using the 300 grainer at about 1000FPS. But the Rossi barrel would not stabilize them. Ended up with a new 1 in 15" barrel.

On another note! I rebarreled my Marlin 44 mag to a 1:16 to stabilize the 300 grainers I shoot in it and my Redhawk !

Your new toy sounds fun. Just because the 230 grain FMJ used to be plentiful, that is what I suggest working with. Since nothing is plentiful now, the ones that used to be plentiful are probably going to be the first to come back --- if they ever do.
