Marlin 336CB

Post by Bigahh »

Guys, need some advice again if you don't mind. This one is for the Marlin crew. I ran into a Marlin 336cb in 38-55 today. Mint shape, of course it has the real heavy Cowboy barrel, octagon I believe. The price tag on it was 700.00, is this a fair price, or way too high?

Do you mean an 1894CB?

Personally I like the octagon barrels and don't care much for the $700 price. :?

It could be an 1894, but the store has it marked 336CB. I didn't look at the barrel closely.

Yes,the 336CB .38-55 is one of my WANTS. They bring close to 1K NIB.

The 1894 is short actioned for pistol cartridges. :D

If its a 38-55, its a 336CB. This is a real classic. They didn't make very many of the 336 cowboys. Some in 30-30 and some in 38-55. $700 has got to be a good price.

Thanks Guys, I will look closer at it tomorrow. It is not NIB, but mint shape. Always wanted a 38-55, a fine caliber for hunting.

Cool, I wasn't sure cause GunBroker didn't have any 33CB's listed. Must be kinda scarce.

That's a pretty good price, in today's market.

I love my 336 CB in 38-55. Its taken deer and elk for me and will generally stay inside of 2" at 100 yards. One of my best investments ever.

I sure kick myself for letting another one get away a year or so ago, just $500 NIB :(

The 336CB 38-55 is indeed a rare rifle and $700 is a good price for one in mint condition. The 336CB 30-30 is even harder to find. I have owned both and they are excellent pointing rifles. The 38-55 are notoriously variable in the actual bore size. I have heard of examples ranging from .376 to .379. Have your bore slugged before you begin casting bullets for it. Does the one you are thinking about have checkered or uncheckered wood?

My 336 CB .38-55 slugs at .379". Use starline 2.125" brass and you will be able to use bullets up to .381". Many 336 CB .38-55 chambered rifles wear Badger Barrels. Just more incentive to buy that rifle! I have the CB .30-30, .38-55, and .45-70. They are all supreme shooters. Get that rifle. 1886.

700.00 seems like alot for a Marlin but that is a pretty scarce rifle. The 38-55 is a classic round and darned addictive. Once you start you just can't stop!

Buy it. I waited too long on one. They are great looking and handling guns and can be loaded like a 375 or better.

I got both the 336CB in 30-30 and 38-55 NIB a few years ago !

Got the 38-55 first when they were still being made and had about $500 in it !

Later when they stopped making the 30-30 in the 336CB I got one of those from a semi local dealer for $425 OTD for a NIB rifle he had had on his rack for over 2 years !

I think the 30-30 is more "rare" then the 38-55 , but I truely like them both !
