Those things are no joke.
A State Trooper was killed last year when a wheel came lose from an 18-wheeler.

Even a passenger car tire can get you. Some years back a tire ended up in the right lane on Interstate 15. It was hit by something, probably a semi, and flipped up in the air. It went through the windshield of a station wagon. No fatalities, but two very seriously injured innocents. Now every time I see a tire on the freeway I think about the potential they have to injure or kill.

Leaving work on interstate in San Diego one day I looked up to see a tire coming directly towards my windshield, wobbling as it fell straight down 
I swerved instantly into the next lane without looking to see if it was empty, lucky it was. The tire would have killed me I think, I was going about 70. I had 3 small children at home then, all in college now
