Interchangable 71 and 86 parts?

Post by jjh501 »

What Winchester 71 parts can be used in an 86? I need to replace the cartridge guide in an original 86. Is there a website that lists compatable parts for various guns?

Why don't you try to find an original part. They come up fairly often. I'm not sure it will interchange. The area of change in the 71 was the use of the wider 348 case and this probably affected the cartridge guide dimension. I know several posters have mentioned sellers of obsolete Winchester parts.

I haven't tried a 71 cartridge guide on an 86, but it just may work. I would consider buying a Browning 1886 guide from Midwest Gun Works, though. The parts are exactly as original; I use them in lieu of originals that are often in less than acceptable condition. Many old '86s are parted out because their condition is such that the parts are more valuable than the complete gun. Then again, I see complete trashed 1886s with 3K asking prices. If you are considering original parts ask lot of questions and need good photos. There are still parts on e-Bay nearly every couple of weeks.
