The original M1 Carbine, M2 select fire, M3 night vision, and today's M4 carbine version of the Stoner design, make sense, but...

Why do we go from the M1 Rifle to the M14 Rifle.....????

Were there really a dozen in between I never heard of...???

Was there an M15 I missed...?
