Most of the rural folks I know own their own place & sleep in a bed and don't have iron bars on the windows or high iron
fences around their home, to keep out the homeless & other human slime, when parts of calicorny succumbs to its perils of
homeless people, human waste & diseased rats & the good & the bad start dying off like medieval times from the plague
maybe a un civilized rural home in fly over country will look pretty cozy, but for me my humble abode is not for sale

One of the biggest mistakes we make as PARENTS and GRANDPARENTS is to send out kids to "public schools".

You may assume they are getting a decent education, at least of the basics, but they are coming away with the clear impression that 'more government solves everything'.

I talk to these kids every day - their parents think everything is fine, and the kid doesn't go home and argue 'politics' with Mom and Dad, because they know where their room and board comes from, but meanwhile they think Mom and Dad have 'crazy ideas' about being independent, about the environment, about guns, and so on. They keep quiet, and Mom and Dad think their Little Darlings are doing fine.

Then off to college for more distortion of the real-world....

Soonn the Little Darlings are pretty soon popping out grandkids, who come visit for milk and cookies, and the occasional outdoor outing, but THEY think Grandma and Grandpa are both pretty antiquated, with strange ideas about 'freedom' and 'equality' and 'responsibility' - but again, they don't say much, because why ruin the day getting 'political'.

Pretty soon the solidly conservative grandparents have produced three 'moderate' Democrat kids who vote accordingly, and nine 'progressive' Democrat grandkids who are actively seeking public policy that destroys everything their grandparents believe in.

Don't be complacent - likely many of you guys have this scenario playing out - interrupt it as soon as you can, and DEFINITELY avoid 'public schools'....!

Even many of the 'religious schools' are bowing to politically-correct pressure from the left.

My son is not as conservative as I am, but he is still a consrvative. Fortunately he has not been turned beyond being able to see the truth. He is young enough that he still is a bit easily influenced by those around him, but that is common in young males less than 30 years old.

From a rural, farm perspective, it woukdn't be very long before city boy would reach for something to eat and go hungry.
People like him/ her think meat comes from a freezer, milk from a bottle , etc.

I'm perfectly fine that they are in a city and not near me, here on my farm, or on a river or lake when I'm angling.

A nutty comment made by a nutty professor at UC Berkeley should not worry us too much, nor should it indicate that is the opinion of all Californians or all liberals for that matter. Berkeley has, for generations , been know as "Berzerkely" by almost everyone, it being too crazy and looneytunes even for most Californians.

Prejudice and bigotry takes a great many forms. Its a all too common human weakness to see them vs. us.

Tribalism, Religion, Race, Class, Politics, Geography, Gender, etc. ...... we as a species seem to have a compulsion to find many ways to segregate or dismiss or denigrate our fellow man. Perhaps that is our real original sin.

Got any kids in college recently? Didn't think so. I've had two in the last 10 years and the socialist drivel they spouted, the BS they are spouting now, it makes a rational person sick.

Actually my 26 year old son graduated two years ago with a BBA in International Business & Banking. He's been working for two years and has now returned part time to school to get his Masters Degree. My 23 year old son will graduate this spring with two Bachelor Degrees …… one in Business Administration and the other in Politic Science.

I myself work at a University as a staff member in the Campus Facilities Department (HVAC, Maintenance, Grounds etc.) but I hope to make a lateral move in a few weeks to Campus Police as a member of their office staff.

Besides that I am Union Steward so besides interacting with the entire support staff I also have on going relationships with the Faculty Stewards at my University as well as relationships with Stewards at the other Michigan Universities.

Saying all of any group is a short sighted position to take.

Wm is right, too broad a brush. I taught in a community college for 20 years. I must admit that there was pressure on me to join the NEA and I was known for placing scripture references on the board. Yeah, I still used white board and colored markers. Academe is so divided from the common man It's beyond my imagination but there a few conservatives who wander through the halls.

here's the thing. you were nowhere on the bell curve of the average pov of the average prof.

a single data point, or three, far from the axis, is meaningless in relation to the trend of the collective data points. there is hope for the ones you taught. average is not a goal.

The issue these days is teachers getting paid to teach, and using that as a pulpit to preach their own agenda instead of teaching. They don't get paid to preach their gospel, or indoctrinate young minds to their point of view. But unfortunately the school boards think just like the teachers who aren't teaching our kids, so nobody is about to change the ways things have gone.

The sad fact is a lot of modern teachers are really good at propaganda, so good infact that youngsters do not realise that they have been duped into thinking the way they do.
Education is not just remembering what you were taught but questioning what you were taught. That's not something the left would ever want their students to do.
