Thougts on the 350 Legend?

I know there's been a few posts back in the beginning of the year. I bumped into my wife's relative in town who I haven't seen for a few months. He just picked one up in a Ruger American. He told me his hunting buddy bought one a month ago, shot it and fell in love with it! He's a die hard 35 Rem guy but with his bad shoulder, it kicks a lot less. I'm not looking for one but it looks really interesting. Thoughts

It doesn't hold any interest for me. Companies keep coming out with so many different calibers and the gun writers sing their praises. In a lever gun, the 35 Remington and 30-30 both out perform it. In a bolt action, I can think of lots of calibers I much rather have. The only thing I can see a practical use for it would be in an AR rifle.

Id rather find a an original 600 in 350 Rem Mag or 35 Rem. It could be fun tho, lobbing 250gr FP's at 12-1500fps. If it helps to get more lower velocity .35 cal hunting bullets of 170-250grs produced, i'm all for it. Todd/3leg

Id like the idea of a legend shortened to 1 to 1.2", if it would get an accurate pistol sized cart in a bolt action at last. Ruger came close with the 357 and 77/44 but not a great accuracy platform.

Often (but not always) I find new cartridges to be a case of reinventing the wheel …… particularly when it comes to appealing to handloaders.

There are exceptions of course …… 7-30 Waters, for example, was described by its inventor as an attempt to duplicate 7X57mm mauser in a lever action was obviously a bit of reinvention but with a purpose.

I don't know much about the 350 Legend but my personal reaction if a 35 Remington was too much for my shoulder would be to pivot towards a 357 magnum lever action and handload some +P or carbine specific hand loads for hunting.

But having said that and again emphasizing my lack of knowledge about the 350 Legend I would say you should take my opinion with a grain of salt. I'm so often late to the party when it comes to new stuff. Hell it was just 15 years ago that I gave the 41 magnum a serious look!!!!!

I also have a Mini-14 that's a blast to shoot as well and I'd love to see a Mini 350. I think it would be a great item for deer, coyotes, and hogs and I'd snap one up the day it was available. I sent a message to Ruger's CEO asking for a Mini in 350 but it looks like my interest fell on deaf ears.

I have 2 Rossi leverguns in .357 Mag and love them as my 158grn handloads chrono at 1,952fps in my 20" carbine and 2,005fps in my 24" rifle. I also have a Mini-14 that's a blast to shoot as well and I'd love to see a Mini 350. I think it would be a great item for deer, coyotes, and hogs and I'd snap one up the day it was available. I sent a message to Ruger's CEO asking for a Mini in 350 but it looks like my interest fell on deaf ears.

The rebated rim brass and undersized 35 cal bullet don't work for me. If you could fire form 223 brass to 350L and load a .358" bullet i think i might have bought one.

What it seems to me, is an attempt to get a cartridge started in states which only straight wall cartridges are allowed. I got .480 Ruger and .327 Federal caliber guns. Both of those calibers are almost obsolete. I can still get plenty of components for now. This 350 Legend might go the same way. New calibers have a tough row to hoe.

Looks to me like a rimless .357 Max. The .357 Max has a very good following in Contenders, especially in states that require short straight-wall cases and there are a few boutique outfits that offer ammo for it.

It will be interesting to see what vendors/platforms offer rifles and pistols for it.

I’m not against anything new(or old) . And lord knows I’ve tried more then my fair share of the new at the time stuff and still do now to a lesser degree , but the 350 Legend doesn’t do it for me . When word first came out a few months back I was somewhat intrested , but like many others it passed . Again I have nothing against it , just don’t deem it as one I wanna mess with .

If you don't live in a state that requires straight walled cartridges for deer they wouldn't be of any interest to you. If you do live in a state that requires a straight walled case for deer you now have the ability to shoot deer on a Ruger bolt action or an AR Platform.
I personally would rather have a .357 Max in either a lever, bolt, or single shot.

Now that I don’t consider totally correct either . I live in a state that doesn’t make any out of the ordinary requirements . By no means are shotgun slugs or buckshot required but I mess with them in a PLETHORA of guns both on paper and deer !

Steve I am with you at this one. I like shooting my 1907 Winchster and I want a replacement to drag on the 4 wheeler through the woods and I think a mini 14 in 350 would be the ticket. Right now I have settled on a PC Carbine for the 4 wheeler.

I love shooting my lever guns in "traditional" platforms 30-30, 35 Rem, 358 Win etc, etc.. I don't think I'll ever buy one in 350L if they ever come out with one, maybe bolt action just to try BUT if Ruger puts one out in a mini 14, I'm in!!!
